"Simplicity, simplicity, simplicity! I say, let your affairs be as two or three, and not a hundred or a thousand; instead of a million count half a dozen, and keep your accounts on your thumb-nail... instead of a hundred dishes, five; and reduce other things in proportion. Our life is like a German Confederacy, made up of petty states." - Henry David Thoreau

The picture represents the quote's message, that one should simplify and reduce their lifestyle, allowing for easier digestion of their surroundings and preventing the creation of "petty states".

"Living much out of doors, in the sun and wind, will no doubt produce a certain roughness of character- will cause a thicker cuticle to grow over some of the finer qualities of our nature, as on the face and hands, or as severe manual labor robs the hands of some of their delicacy of touch." - Henry David Thoreau

The picture depicts what the quote is attempting to say, that the "roughness of character" developed when performing manual labor is no different than the roughness created when exploring and adventuring in nature.

My objective after graduating from high school is to enlist within the medical field and help pursue a different form of ideology when handling patients. In our society, healthcare professionals are notorious for attempting to rush through multiple appointments daily, which often results in misdiagnosis and lack of adequate patient care. I intend on developing a medical system in which doctors are forced to give equal and adequate care to each patient, but at the same time prevent overworking and stress for them. My hope is that this system of balancing appointments and dispersing them out among doctors will nullify the consequences of neglectful medical care and help employ additional medical professionals, thus creating an equal distribution. If hospitals are equipped with more staff and doctors, the practice of rushing through appointments will become archaic and we will have a more beneficial medical system.

Whitman's poem emphasizes that life does not have one singular meaning, rather its meaning is subjective. The meaning of life is assigned by the person living that life, thus it is not a collective answer. If a person continues their life without seeking deep reflection, their life has little meaning and vice-versa. Thus, if a person truly wants their life to reflect deeper meaning, they must begin to commit to a lifestyle that has a more deeper meaning.
