Barbarians are what they called all people who spoke a foreign language (kind of crazy.) The Samaritans were a subgroup of the Jews, but were not accepted by the Jews. I knew they weren't accepted, did not know they were technically Jews.

I feel like I have learned more about this from historical fiction and secular history than I actually have from reading the Bible. I am interested to see what the Bible said about different ethnic groups and the division between them, because I know Jesus brought them together in beautiful ways.

However, they did become allies with the Romans which gave them a power position and the ability to keep their own culture without being taken over.
