The author started to go through changes when she was only eight years old because of the incident that had happened. even when she transferred to different schools she was bullied. Her own family continued to tell her that she hasn't changed so because that was drilled in her head, that was what she believed. later in life after she had her daughter, she began have fears that her daughter would become embarrassed of her but it turned out to be the opposite. What was learned from the story is that beauty does not come from looks, but from who you are. Alice changed because of her new appearance, she thought she was beautiful before but after the accident she thought she was ugly and wouldn't look at anyone. Then after she was shot, she lost confidence in herself, had low self-esteem and she didn't feel beautiful to her father and others the way she used to.  The main concept of Walker's essay is beauty, and when she has her daughter, her daughter gives her a whole different perspective on what beauty is and how to view herself. Her daughter saw her for who she is, and after that she was able to look at herself and feel confident again, because of her own little "world". She got shot in the eye accidently and her appearance changed from being the "pretty" daughter to loosing her self-esteem through out her childhood she battled against her insecurities until she hit high school .
 Her eye is the insecurity. she learns how to love her self until she is asked to be on the cover of a magazine for her outstanding work. Her insecurities come back until her daughter tells her that she has " a world in her eye" because of her blue scar from when she was shot. Alice realized that her daughter was right and that there was never anything wrong with her, it actually made her better. Alice learned that she is still the same amazing and beautiful person she was before. In the beginning of the text Alice walker was a cute little girl with great confidence. She was empowered, independent, and in her prime. After the accident this changed however. She no longer saw that pretty, intelligent girl in the mirror anymore. Her face, once full of joy, now was often faced downwards. Through time she managed to love her self especially after getting the scar removed. She never felt as she did before the accident again though. This is until her daughter states " Mommy, there's a world in your eye." This moment has such great sigifigance because her young daughter found true beauty in one of her biggest insecurities. It lets Alice know that she hasnt changed and she is still that beautiful girl she desired to be.
