Setting: 

Summary: 

Lou went to her land to start building her tiny house and brought her friends and Jack to help her. But, she got in trouble and her mom grounded her. Sadly her land may get taken. Lou also met Mr. Keller and his partner and asked him to help her build her tiny house. 

 

Thoughts: 

It is still very predictable there are no twists that we can't see already coming. 

However, it may be a huge twist for students; age that this is tailored to. 

The friends are willing to help but still were not fully helping and wanted a break after the first thing was done.

Summary: Lou Starts to think that she will have her house done with the help of Annie and Mr. Keller. SO she is distracted during dance practice, and she makes her friends come and help her. They have an argument and her cousin gets hurt and her friends leave. Her mom double grounds her and she cannot make her new house Lou tries to fix things by going to the tax office to get an extension but it does not work. Her mom gets another job offer but it is not as good as Washington. She also got an early birthday present to go to a class about architecture at the community college. They have a family moment and talk to Lou about her dad and go visit his grave. Then jack gives her the clips that he edited and apparently she won something where she will be on tv with Mr. Keller.  Then she also lends a hand to Jack and his film he is making for the festival. 

 

Thoughts: 

She was concerned more about her house than her friends and she is defiant. 

What lesson would this book teach our students? 

Her fight with her friends made her contemplate her life and how she can be bossy. 

There is a lot of family time and thoughts about how much family matters.

Setting: 

 

Summary: 

Lou and Mr. Keller are on TV for winning an award and she sees the video that Jack makes. She also is surprised by the 500$ prize. Her mom went to the tax office to negotiate and was unsuccessful and the family found out about how she is struggling at the festivities. She does her dance and it goes well. After, they receive a check from their family members to help with the taxes on the land so she does not have to lose it. Lou starts watching TV but her mom puts in the VCR Tapes and Lou sees her dad on video for the first time. They start to cry. The next day is Lou's birthday and she is blindfolded and taken to a surprise party on her land with friends and family. She also is surprised because part of her tiny house had been built because her friends came to help. Then she goes with her friends and ends up kissing Jack. Her mom also surprises her with the news that they will be staying here. They get a small apartment and she has learned that your home is everywhere it is not a physical place but where you feel at home.
