I had to explore a range of ideas that promoted the Harlow College media, journalism and photography department that had already been created online by staff, media websites and other students. I put all of my ideas on to a mood board as seen below because it will help me throughout the 10 weeks.

I found the following information using these materials:

1. Website (blogs, social media,

images, graphics)

2. Video (cooperate video,
advertisement, trailers, promo video)

3. Audio (radio, podcast)

4. Text (newspaper articles, blogs, twitter,Facebook, course details)

Task 2: U5 1.2 Assess the effectiveness of technology skills in solving an audio production

Today we had to individually download and experiment with different audio apps that we could use for our own cooperate video or podcast

1. Voice Recorder

2. Garage Band

3. Spreaker Studio

4. iMovie

We then wrote a review on each audio app

commenting the advantages and disadvantages and how we

might use each apps for our own podcast or video. We then had to find another app or technology that might be used to create a suitable audio for our podcast.

We have had to download an app called Simpl onto our ipad to create our interactive website. We had to find out and demonstrate how the Simpl app would be effective in presenting our interactive media production. We need to produce a short report explaining following;

1. Theme and Menus

- It gives you the option to create a new website. It has a settings tab, edit tab and a preview tab. These icons are easy to find and easy to use, even for people who are new to using the website.

2. Home page logo

- The home page gives you the option to write your own page name, add a picture and add a caption and text if you want to. These tabs are very easy to find and is easy to get the hang of.

3. Website details

- You can write descriptions that people can use to find you on a search engine. This will allow searchers/users to view your website. This technique, therefore, is a great way if not the best way to promote the media department at Harlow College.

4. Uploading photos and videos

- It gives you the option to upload videos and images from your camera roll and put them on to your website. You can add captions underneath your photos/videos as well. This will be good material in my work to promote the media department on my website.

5. Upload audio

- It will give you the option to upload audio work you have pre-recorded on each individual page. This will also be good material to use to promote the Harlow College media department.

6. How to publish

- Go to publish, settings and then click publish website. After this people will be able to access and view your website.

This morning and maybe this afternoon I need to finish off my unit 4 contextual research on interactive media. This afternoon we will probably be doing a bit more of unit 5 & 7 with Cliff.

Today I am just continuing with my unit 3 work on comparing newspapers and magazines and target audiences.

I have finished analysing different newspapers and magazines and have also done a word count for both a tabloid and broadsheet newspaper. I then added the amount of words in each sentence up and then divided the total by 20. That gave me the average amount of words in each sentence. You tended to find that there were more words in broadsheet newspapers than tabloid ones. I felt that today has gone well and will continue this tomorrow.

I was ill all weekend and off yesterday. I still don't feel great today but I have to come in or I'll miss a load of work. I started to do my mind map for my photography plan for my group's interactive webs tie. I need to include what sort of techniques, equipment, props and locations I want to use, and so on.

This is my mind map on my photography plan for my group's website. The map is not yet completed as you can see there is still a gap. That gap is for the focus group images. I still need to do test shots and I still need to get permission for locations and for people that I can take pictures of. I would like to get some shots of the motion room, trees and grass area, the open plan area and the glass corridor (green house) area. Hopefully I can get some shots of the teachers as well such as Cliff, Delta and support staff such as Jenny. We had a focus group towards the end of the day and we shared our ideas and made suggestions for other group members. They suggested to me that I use more than one prop (camera) they suggested that I should use a mac computer, notepad and pen and maybe the TV screen that advertises jobs as well. They also recommended using different angles such as side-angles and close ups, etc.

Today, we (photography students) went round and took some test shots of the different facilities, student work, students working and some of the equipment. After we took them, we went back to class and went through them to decide which ones to keep and which ones weren't that good. We tested different angles, shots and effects that could make the image look more exciting and powerful.

I also started to set up my website on the simpl app. There are six sections on the website that we had to make. They are facilities, student work, student views, the learning, publicity and contact us. These are very easy guides through the website that will contain valuable information and excellent images. The main website title is very clearly seen at the top of the page and stands out to the users.

I also researched some ideas of different photography shots and angles from other prospectuses. This is so that it can help me with my own photos that I am going to take when promoting the Harlow College Media department. My aim is to get some quality shots of students working, tutors engaging with students and the different equipment and facilities there are.

Today, the marketing department also gave me some great tips on how to take shots and how to overcome your fears of doing photography. It is a good thing to tell people how to stand or sit or what to do with their hands so both the photographer and the person who is having their picture taken doesn't feel awkward.

My next plan, is to take a few more test shots with my iPad in time for next week so that I'm fully prepared to do the real thing with professional cameras.

Today I also experimented with some test shots with my iPad. An example below, is of people working together and engaging in the green pods. It shows that students are enthusiastic, focused and happy to be doing media, journalism or photography at Harlow College.

Today didn't go that well. The positives of today are that I got plenty of different shots and I was taken out of my comfort zone. I spoke to people in journalism, photography and marketing all in one day. I managed to gather a couple of student's work from photography. However, I found that testing different angles was tricky and I still need more confidence and I found going up to people on my own difficult too. On Monday I plan to do the shots for real. I need to do a bit more angle research in my spare time to prepare me for next week.
In terms of working with people I find that not too bad, however, so far in 2016 Luke has been quite hard work and can be a bit too immature SOMETIMES. He moans a lot about things as well which can grind us down. Below, is my favourite test shot that I took today.

Today has been a very frustrating day due to a very slow internet network. I have gained positives from today though, I have learnt how to publish a website and I learnt how to put a QR code on to my assessment sheet and printed it out. Also, I have had to change a few privacy settings on my padlet. Hopefully tomorrow the internet will be faster and I can get more work and production work done.

Today I have taken some more shots with a proper camera with Gabbie. I have also learnt how to use one of these cameras and how to upload them on to the macs. I then uploaded my selected photos to Facebook and saved them to my iPad camera roll and will send them to my group members. Tomorrow I hope to finalise my website ready for Monday.

This is the part I contributed to the website. I was the photographer so I took about 40 pictures and chose about 18 of them to use on the website. They varied in the different equipment, facilities and student work. I felt that I played an important role in my production group and had something to achieve. I wanted my pictures do be immaculate and encouraging for people who are looking at the website. It was also important to me that the pictures are clear to view for the public. I think if I was to do it again next time, I would perhaps spend a bit longer on it and ask for opinions from other people on my pictures. Also, I should try to have more confidence as well as it will help me produce better quality work and to get the maximum out of the time we have.
