We had never had such an interesting one hour in which we did our work but I learned how team works and how with proper coordination a difficult task can be done. We had made an excellent project but we didn't win but still in that one hour I learned that when you work together you can have a lot of fun and learned a lot for our future too. It also inspired me to work together as i don't like people working with me but i felt very happy that day.

Riddhi Mahajan
10-C
While a competitive work environment drives results, the way it drives them is by being fear-driven, overworked, and individualistic. Collaborative environments also drive results, but by way of positivity, teamwork, and creativity. Collaboration is becoming a common way to meet the demands of global competition and a successful.
Competition didn't only come out on the field, it came out in the classroom too. Those days when exams were returned or projects handed out, all of us would gather to see who won the prize of the highest score. But, learning and sports, although exhibiting some elements of friendly competition, are really about collaboration. We need to be a team to really grow as learners and players. In competition individuals hold back information. Whereas in collaboration, individuals will be synergistically working together towards their objective. Collaboration is an important part of the innovation stages of selecting the ideas, development and commercializing an idea. When we work with each other, our natural strengths have an opportunity to be challenged and improved and our deficits have the chance to be lessened. We are truly better together. collaboration is really the quality we must aspire to.

Well there are two sides to a coin and a team which is highly competitive will often have instances of backstabbing, information hoarding and of course in fighting. A purely collaborative environment on the other hand is a breeding ground for mediocrity, extremely slow decision making and no impetus for employees to step outside their comfort zones. But then, collaborative cultures improve creativity because everyone is in a more relaxed environment.

My submission is, that a competitive team, which knows to work collaboratively will give the best output. A smart leader is one who finds ways to promote healthy competition within the team; ensures that ideas are shared, achievements are celebrated and there is collective responsibility for failure. Collaboration and competition need to co-exist because one without the other is never the sustainable way to be. Some may feel that the competitive streak in a team may result in alienating the weak members. But I believe that it is the competitive spirit in a collaborative environment that gives the weaker teammates an opportunity to better themselves. It provides them a chance to learn from others and motivates them to self-improve.

Great teams are made up of people who compete well, respect each other’s’ views and contribute equally. They understand that for excellence to become a habit, you need to practise it over and over until it becomes second nature. Success comes from each member having a distinctive yet complementary role. The best teams are those which combine individual drive with the understanding of the importance and power of the team.

A great leader creates a great team and it is the responsibility of a leader to ensure a healthy balance of collaboration and competition within his team. Many of us may think that collaboration and competition cannot exits together, but the fact is, collaboration and competition nurture each other. Competition encourages people to give their best and collaboration encourages the team to put everyone’s talent to the best use.

Soumyajit Chandra 10A
“Talent wins games , but teamwork and intelligence win championships “- Michael Jordan. In modern world of changing and complex problems, it is very difficult to solve problems through individual efforts . When several minds come together the individual brilliance leads to innovative ideas and efforts which help in overcoming the challenge. Collaboration is therefore always a better method in tackling problems than individual efforts. Competition leads to closing of minds ; and indulge unnecessary anger amongst persons. There are several examples in modern science how collaborative efforts lead to successful development of technologies and breakthrough in science. In my personal experience , I share an incident which s hows how collaborative effort helped us to win difficult situation. It was the development of mobile app for our school. The time was short , and it had to be ready in 2 days time. We were three members in a team and none of us had previous experience in designing the app. We were perplexed and anxious how to solve the problem. We are all good in different subjects and have healthy competitions. We decided to join hands and sit together. We applied our minds and exchanged ideas . Our joint effort led to a design, coding and debugging of the computer codes. We all shared our codes through the online collaborative platform. After tremendous effort, the app was ready just- in- time. The mobile app was launched by our computer teacher and she praised our effort. This small incident showed me how important the collaborative team work was and always better than competition amongst individuals.

10-A
Competition is in our nature. We compete against other teams or individuals in sports, we compete with siblings for our parents’ attention, we compete with our friends for recognition . The best teams encourage both collaboration and competition – leaders should collaborate with their peers to compete against the competition . Your members should act and function as a ‘team’ – not just a group of individuals. Collaboration isn’t about ‘leveling the playing field’ – it’s about helping each other be their best and work toward a common goal. And it’s important to note a few things about competition. It doesn’t have to be on an individual level – it can be on a group or team level, or there can be multiple winners. Competition can also be based around activities, or based around goals. But, competition can be driving factor for many, but in my experience , collaborations have helped me better my social skills , although the team’s work was distributed inconsistently, but we worked as a team and we didn't have the urge to one up each other all the time, and in the case of competition everyone had to work hard but everyone one was thinking about themselves and made the whole environment toxic and selfish , Although, competitions taught me to work hard but their was no sign of sportsmanship and on the other hand collaboration helped me build my confidence and put my ideas forward.

Arjun Grover 10 - D
If one wants to produce results , collaboration beats competition even on its best day. If a boss wants results from his employees, he would want to create a collaborative environment. Though in a competitive environment, he would get more results but their results would be sloppy as they would have tried to cheat , ruin the other's results and in the end none of their final products would be as good as the one produced in a collaborative environment as they would trust each other and help each other make better choices and decisions. One time , in a game of football, the other team was very competitive, not with us but among themselves . All of them wanted to score the goals , wanted all the credit while our team members collaborated with each other and needless to say , we easily won. The following instances prove that collaboration is better than competition if we want better results and progress although both of them have their 'golden' points.

“Competition makes us faster. Collaboration makes us better.” If you want to create a culture that will produce breakthrough results, collaboration trumps competition by a long shot. You want people to understand what their individual strengths are so they can pool those strengths and move toward a common vision.

Once collaboration is in place, people are much more trusting of each other, more willing to stretch themselves and more likely to create amazing results.

The opposite happens when competition starts showing up. People hoard systems, information and support staff. They’re less likely to share all kinds of resources — physical and intellectual. Those who see solutions for problems don’t share them until they can be sure they’ll get the credit. It’s impossible to get to the best ideas when people refuse to share and work through thinking together. When competition is in play, people don’t trust each other enough to authentically create stretch goals that will enable everyone to grow beyond where they are now.If you sincerely want a group of people to be high-performing together, you don’t want to create a culture of internal competition within the team. That being said, I have seen other organizations who use healthy competition between teams to produce cutting-edge ideas. In these cases, two or three teams were charged with doing the exact same thing. They knew the other teams existed, but these teams didn’t share resources (budget, people or ideas) across the groups. Each team wanted to get to the end result on its own to be the winner. This kind of competition between teams can create an intensity that generates powerful results for an organization. When you do this, you need to be transparent, and you want to clearly establish that they’re all working toward the same goal that will ultimately benefit the whole company and everyone in it. It’s also a good idea to let people know ahead of time that those teams will be shuffled up into new groups when the competition is over and then everyone will be expected to share best practices with each other.Ultimately, you want to create a workplace culture where people freely share information, opinions and perspectives. The best way to achieve that is through building trust and emphasizing collaboration, not competition.

10-B
Agreeing with the renowned proverb, ‘Two heads are better than one’ I believe that collaboration brings out the best in each of our teammates. In a competition we try to be better than each other but while working together we present our best, thus driving our energy in a positive direction. In a competition we tend to focus more on bringing the other person down rather than focusing on the upliftment of our own presentation. Collaboration also allows us to divide the work among the teammates the decreasing workload.
‘Every coin has two sides’ and likewise, Competition drives us to do better than we would have not knowing what the other person has been up to. After all, growing competition is what led to growing development due to the constant need of being better than one another.
I would like to share an instance of a time when collaboration made my work more efficient.
When my friends and I had taken part in a competition as a team rather than being opponents, we each had different strengths and weaknesses. We found out that we had managed to cover up each other’s weaknesses and bring out our strengths thus, enabling us to perform way better than we could have individually.

“No one can whistle a symphony, It takes a whole orchestra to play it .”Quiet rightly said as living in this contemporary era ,being generation z working with zeal towards our desired destinations ingeniously, we of all should know better that collaboration and teamwork as a whole captures the essence of humanity in the truest of forms. Granted that individuality is superior when it comes to advancing towards one’s ambitions , limelight should also be given to the spirit of collaboration which yields out better and nonetheless productive outcomes.

An instance from my personal experiences throwing light on the same would date back to last year when we were given a project on disaster management. I was to be frank struggling with it and almost a fortnight went in lieu of not finding any legitimate resources regarding the mentioned. It was to my fortune that I got a chance to speak to a junior research intern working directly under a civil servant at the planning commission of India more commonly known as the NITI Ayog. After speaking to her it is hard not to say that I gained such deep and tactful insight on the internal schemes of how disaster management in India actually works, ranging from the cellular degree to the portfolios in the cabinet. Collaborating with the research scholar opened my mind to arenas of progress as she even provided me with analytics and immediate mitigation strategies that our country follows and how the officials are always on their toes.

That specific collaboration reflects how working together produces better and convalescent end results than working on our own while we create more problems than we resolve.

Collaboration is better than competition. Once collaboration takes place people start trusting each other and work as a team to achieve the same goal. The opposite happens in competition as some competitors might take the wrong road to achieve their goals. Output from a team would be better as compared to a single person. There have been multiple instances, and out of those there was this time when my fellow classmates and I were playing football in the field and instead of playing as a team some of the children started playing for themselves, they stopped cooperating with their team members and started playing solo where as the the other team was playing as a whole. Our team lost due to competition between the members and the opponent team won as they played as a whole and cooperated with each other. This specific collaboration shows that working as a team gives better results than working by ourselves which creates more problems.

If people will collaborate and show their fullest for their team then nothing is better than that but as everything has its pros and cons no one can give a definitive answer. On my other perspective I think that there are some people who think that if they have competition in their life they can succeed more they need someone against them for their own good. There are also some people who don't collaborate because they have alot of trust issues there are many people who betray there partner just for there need it can be anything like money. Nowadays no one can trust anybody. But I think that collaboration is the best for all. Because everyone contribute their ideas and comes up with such a new experience, experiment and alot of inspiration..

I feel that collaboration theoretically divides the task and multiplies the success. But if it’s seen from a practical perspective, it’s much more than that. As collaboration gets in place, a sense of trust is created and hence people are ready to stretch themselves and come up with even more advantageous ideas/solutions. Collaboration brings up positivity, teamwork and most important of all, creativity. A few ingenious minds when put together could create an even more remarkable outcome than a single ingenious mind. Instead of being destructive like in a competition, we could bring people with a shared interest together in a common challenge through collaboration. Collaborative cultures improve creativity because everyone is in a more relaxed environment. Something I would like to add on is collaboration and competition also need to co-exist because one without the other is never the sustainable way to be. Some may feel that the competitive streak in a team may result in alienating the weak members. But I believe that it is the competitive spirit in a collaborative environment that gives the weaker teammates an opportunity to better themselves. A real life instance would be something which happened recently with me in a Model UN. After hours of debating, a draft resolution was to be formed i.e the final solution to the issue raised, that being the main purpose of the debate. I was representing a country and so were the others so instead of going against each other and not focusing on winning for once. We realised that we’re fighting for the same cause, so we put our hands together and formed the resolution. The productivity was high, it wasn’t time consuming, the resolution was well-versed by the minds of not one, not two, but five other minds. But at the end of the day, we all were competing against one another, but it was the spirit of collaboration which brought us together and made us work in a, let’s say, a more efficient manner. Lastly I would just like to quote Michael Jordan, “Talent wins games but teamwork and intelligence wins championships.”

Competition encourages people to work harder, to work better, to deliver more efficient products. Most of the time, whoever does it best/fastest, is rewarded the most. This is also true in science, where whoever makes the first discovery is the one that will get the much needed grants and their publications. On the other hand, the more minds working on the same issues, the more likely there will be faster results by those people. So collaboration is what one could consider a good thing for scientific progress.

However, and now speaking more in the context of science, this competitive nature also slows down collaboration. Since the more one collaborates with others, the more likely they will reach results faster, but the smaller their own share of recognition is. And it is logical to want to reward the ones that do the best/fastest. I mean, sure it is likely that many important “answers” will be found eventually, but whoever comes out on top of the pack and finds those answers first is likely to be more “special” than the others. Perhaps a better scholar, or a more imaginative scholar that lead them to be the first to find the answers that everyone wanted to know. And rewarding the people who are “better” than the rest in their fields, maximizes the efficiency of grant funding, which in turn makes scientific research possible. So this is quite a dilemma on deciding which route is the way to go.

In a world with unlimited funding, collaboration is a the way to go with no issues whatsoever. However, as we live in a world where funding is limited, it is necessary to be choosy, and that means you need to spend the money on the best people to increase the odds of getting the best results. As such, encouraging people to show that they have what it takes is important, which means that collaboration might not always be the way to go.

The concept of competition works well in certain aspects, as does the concept of collaboration. When we talk about a nation's economy, most people and experts agree that encouraging competition between companies helps the economy and thus, the nation, prosper. But it would be wrong for us to apply a concept in every situation just because it is successful in one. In the case of scientific progress, competition would only cripple scientists and hinder the process, for the concept of collaboration and exchanging of ideas between people is what the scientific method is built on. I believe that Science by its very nature, is far more collaborative than competitive.

It is well known that competitions, especially ones with challenging conditions, tend to bring out the worst in the competitors. It encourages people to cheat, stow away any new ideas just because it might not be relevant and overall discourages many from ever enjoying what they do. To do well in such an environment, one would have to know how to handle such pressure well, but I don't believe that handling the pressure that comes along with competitions should be a requirement for good scientists. A good scientist can be any person with a hunger to know more about the universe and who is willing to devote their time to the pursuit of science.

Competitive environments are also mostly results-driven and only reward those who get those results, while penalising the people who make too many mistakes. I believe this directly contradicts the scientific method, in which we conduct experiments and often fail, we fail so we can better understand why we failed and improve. In a competitive environment, such a process would be punished, which would greatly hinder scientific progress.

An instance from my life where collaboration helped me would be throughout this lockdown. In these times, I have been able to improve my understanding of concepts and prepare for tests far more thoroughly by collaborating with my classmates. We clear each other's doubts and because we have alternating strong subjects, whenever one of us has problems with grasping a concept or has trouble remembering it, we overcome it by sharing different metaphors, ways and routes of learning or remembering said concept. Because of this collaboration, not only have we helped each other improve in our studies, we feel more confident in our knowledge of these subjects.

"Alone we can do so little; together we can do so much."-Helen Keller
Competition and collaboration are two aspects of any project that are important in their own way. Competition can prove to be fun and help motivate us to work harder to achieve our goals.
But it can also be a main cause of unwanted stress. Collaboration promotes teamwork and creativity by means of sharing of ideas and thoughts. It also helps improve the quality of your work as the work is divided between people who have different ideas about the subject.

An instance from my life where collaboration helped me is during a biology project. We had all been assigned the work and were told to do it in groups of five. This project made me realize how collaboration makes our work so much easier. The work got finished much more quickly than imagined as the work was divided among lots of people. This helps reduce the workload and pressure on people. We had a lot of different inputs from a lot of people, that helped us combine our work in a creative productive manner and also learn more about the subject. It also helped instill the feeling of usefulness and teamwork in the minds of all the members.I'd like to end by quoting Booker T. I have been part of but a few competitions. But more importantly how even if you don't win , you should not loose hope . I am truly thankful for the team I had for that dance competition and how much knowledge I gained.

Competition and collaboration should be a better topic to write about. We shouldn't waste time on these petty squabbles like which one is better of the two. Instead why don't we look at them as the different sides of the same coin so to speak.

Healthy competition brings out the best in people as its our innate desire to win, and while competing, we do our level best and thus make more progress.

But that isn't to say that competition is better, as collaboration brings people together. It shows us how different people think, how other people work. We can work with others to learn how to be better. Take two average people. Let them meet each other and voilà. Even subconsciously people pick out the best qualities of others and try to build upon them; thus giving the best of both worlds.

Though both of these only work when the people themselves want it too. When in a competition, you don't play only for one sole reason, which is to win. But if you play to learn and grow from the experiences as well as win (obviously), then and only then is competition better. Other times collaboration obliterates competition out of the competition between these two.

Competition is not inherently bad. In fact, it can be incredibly fun. However, competition can hold us back from achieving our greatest potential because it is inherently divisive. There can only be one winner.

Collaboration, on the other hand, is all about progressing as a whole. There is no winner unless the entire group crosses the finish line together.

While a competitive work environment drives results, the way it drives them is by being fear-driven, overworked, and individualistic. Collaborative environments also drive results, but by way of positivity, teamwork, and creativity.

The environment generated by pure competition is often a vicious and negative cycle.

Through personal experience, I am of the opinion that a holistic mix of both, competition and collaboration are required to generate an overall better workspace; not only in the field of science but elsewhere as well.

Studies show that people are generally more productive under pressure, however work better, not as individuals but when in a group. Having said that, I'd like to use the example of a friend of mine. He has a vast variety if interests ranging from debating to programming, and, last year his school had recommended his name for two competitions clashing on the same date; a debate and a coding competition. He, as a person prefers debates and oratory in general over "monotonous" tasks such as programming as those types of competitions generally allow more room for creative expression, however, he wasn't given a choice and was told to go for the programming competition because he was more likely to win that. The above example goes to illustrate my point that a competition based environment is a lot more goal oriented, creating a more negative surrounding, lacking creative expression and personal opinion.

However, a collaboration based surrounding foes have it's own shortcomings as well. The most prominent being; difference of opinion. For example, last year on Science Day, there was an activity organised within the school related to robotics, where students were segregated into teams of 4. We, as a team, had a plan ready for what we wanted to do. But a member of the team had a different idea and this led to, said person, not working with the rest of the team, leading to us not being able to execute either plan.

In my opinion, an ideal work environment should have room for creative thinking, personal opinion and free thinking whilst having healthy competition.

well there are always two sides to a story.
Competition or collaboration has always been a question in everyone’s mind with each person having a different take on it and maybe even an experience attached to it. Well let’s look at it that way...competition drives you and motivates you to work harder, it’s basic human nature to push yourself even more when you’re driven by passion, fear, pressure and competition. You look at people around you and you see them working hard and you don’t want to be left behind so you push your boundaries and it often results in you stepping out of your comfort zone. But competition also may include putting other people down, and stepping on other people and maybe even using wrong methods to get to the top, it also may discourage the people around. Collaboration may be beneficial as everyone is working together and a lot of creative minds are helping each other out and pushing each other to step out and push your limits. Collaboration is mentally healthier as cut throat competition may take a toll on your mental health and collaboration is more encouraging and is more likely to yield better results. Also it saves time and effort and you learn from each other and your ideas stem from each other. Competitive collaboration where there is a drive and a hunger to push the limits in each person but they’re also working together with each other should be the way to go and this also enhances social skills and it makes you meet new people and learn about different people.

Humans are competitive creatures. We will compete for food, fulfilling our goals, success in the capitalist economy. But we're also great collaborators. You can see it in how we structure our communities, play team sports.
According to Finnish journalist Anu Partanen, competition kills some students' love of learning—even to the point of pushing the U.S. down the ladder on international education rankings. She points out that Finland is doing nearly the polar opposite of the U. S. and yet, their scores on international tests soar ever higher. Oh, and there's that little thing about how they aren't even competing. Rather, Finland emphasizes collaboration over competition. And that collaboration can be between students, teachers, and even schools.
There are real benefits of competition in the classroom. competition can be a great tool . It can make processes where students recall and recite information more efficient. If you want your students to put away book bags, turn in their homework, or get to their desks within 30 seconds, a little competition can be a lot of fun (and save a lot of time).
though, that not all students enjoy such competition, and the use of these techniques aren't necessarily the greatest of go-tos for the pedagogical aspects of your class
there's a fine line between the fun of a friendly competition and that sinking feeling of getting left behind. And you've got to be aware of those students who don't exactly feel the thrill of competition as a thrill, or who feel they lose all the time, or are so scared of losing they don't even want to participate.
So competition puts a lot of pressure on students while being a very efficient way of doing work. Collaboration includes team work ,positivity and creativity and leads to better results.

Since the more one collaborates with others, the more likely they will reach results faster, but the smaller their own share of recognition is.Those answers first are likely to be more “special” than the others. However, as we live in a world where funding is limited, it is necessary to be choosy, and that means you need to spend the money on the best people to increase the odds of getting the best results. Science has always been a competitive undertaking. Despite recognition of the benefits of cooperation and team science, reduced availability of funding and jobs has made science more competitive than ever. history of science shows that transformative discoveries often occur in the absence of competition, which only emerges once fields are established and goals are defined. Collaboration has always helped people achieve great goals in life. A simple example -
Video conferencing. Video conferencing is one of the most vital teamwork in workplace examples in business. ...But I think that overall collaboration is better in Science. As it results in a more effective and useful result. Another example - a project that a student cannot do alone can complete with the help of his classmates. Here the work will be divided between different children, and they would be able to focus on it more properly instead of taking stress

SHIVANSH THAKRAL
10 B
COMPETITION Makes Us Faster But COLLABORATION MAKES US BETTER.
Not only hardwork but smart work and team work is also the key to success. IT'S NOT BEING THE BEST ITS ABOUT BEING BETTER THAN YESTERDAY OVERCOMING ALL THE DIFFICULTIES AND FOCUSSING ON THE FUTURE AIMING FOR SUCCESS. IF ONE WANT'S TO GO FAST MUST GO ALONE BUT IF ONE WANT'S TO GO FAR HE MUST GO TOGETHER. It's truly said that one and one makes ELEVEN. One who competes is GREAT, one who collaborates is SMART, BUT ONE WHO COLLABORATES AND THEN COMPETE IS GENIUS. Not only in the field of science but according to me collaboration is very important at every perspective of life. ONE SHOULD LOOK IN THE MIRROR THAT'S HIS TRUE COMPETITION. I CAN DO THINGS THAT ONE CAN'T DO, ONE CAN DO THINGS THAT I CAN'T DO BUT TOGETHER WE CAN DO GREAT THINGS. Leaving the past behind one should focus on the future overcoming all the difficulties and innovative and discovering new things. INNOVATION is a major part of our lives as Innovation is taking two things that exist and putting them together in a new way. Being little overconfident one feels that he's the best but it's truly said that if YOU'RE THE TOPPER OF THE CLASS YOU ARE IN A WRONG CLASS.....ONE SHOULD EXPLORE THE WORLD AND OVERCOME ALL THE PROBLEMS. LASTLY, ASKING FOR HELP IS NOT ONE'S WEAKNESS AND ONE SHOULD NOT FEEL SHY AND HESITATE IN ASKING HELP IT'S PART OF ONE'S LIFE AND ONE SHOULD TAKE OT AS HIS STRENGTH.
THANK YOU

"competition makes us faster but collaboration makes us better"

It is natural for us to compete with those around us and in certain scenarios it may be helpful. However it can also be detrimental to overall progress. Collaboration is progressive wholly.

The desire to get ahead of others can lead to sloppy work and make it hard to provide everyone the opportunity to get better, do better. Collaboration enables everyone to contribute and produces the best possible results.

It teaches us essential virtues like patience and teamwork while also allowing for a safer environment for the people and the world to grow.

Fueled only by competition only hierarchies would exist, everyone eager to be at the top rung of the ladder. Our democratic, inclusive, society is seen as the best form of governance. It is the ultimate example of a collaborative space, where everyone has a choice and a say in decisions instead of unilateral governance. we are able to come up with a common solution which is beneficial to all and leads only to progress instead of oppression of certain people.

In my opinion, collaboration is better than competition.

In a general sense, competition forces all parties to try and improve in order to survive, but there is almost always a winner and loser in some shape or form. History (natural and human) is perhaps the best demonstrator of this.

While the idea of mutually beneficial competition, or 'co-opetition' has been recently popularised, one can argue that by its very nature, competition is rarely accepted by choice and is seldom friendly. It pits us against the 'other' and appeals to our primal instincts to win by any means necessary - particularly if the stakes are high enough. While there may be rules to keep competition fair, there will almost always be those who push the boundaries of what is deemed fair and acceptable behaviour. To survive in competition, this ultimately forces others to similarly test these boundaries, pushing them ever outwards, resulting in a destructive race that seldom benefits all parties. On the other hand, collaboration, by its very nature, demands mutual co-operation to benefit all parties involved. We all become part of a single network, where damaging a single node would also harm ourselves. As such, we seek to improve not only ourselves but others too. It engenders trust, further encourages the sharing of knowledge and creates an environment where collective intelligence can be fostered to address some of the more challenging problems that we face. The sharing of ideas is also more conducive to creativity, innovation, adaptability and speed of progress. As such, given a choice of one or the other, it would likely be wiser to lean towards collaboration rather than competition.
Thanks

AHAAN GANDHI 10th-C

According to me collaboration makes divisions among the people because each person is not given the chance to learn anything bit comes to know about everything. The decision making is more successful. It generates a sense of trust among the members of the team .

As different people have different perspectives and approaches about something then the decosion is more accountable and sustainable because people have the choice to correct each other.

When different mindset of people are consulted and put in a place , then the final result would be more advantageous.

Collaboration makes us more communicative and hardworking although for individuals no one is there to correct them . In individuals they are free to do anything because there is no one to consult them like a new born child but it comes the responsibility that they does not hesitate and work as a team so that they could make the child influence and learn the good habits . Example an individual playing football vesus the team of eleven players then there is very less chances of winning same in the case of individual and team , in a team there are more chances for development but gradually.it signifies that more the people there to support then more the confidence you earn and more innovative you become.

However in collaborations people somehow depend on each other. Working in team teaches patience, hardwork, loyalty , cooperation etc . Hence we can conclude with that coperation leads to better outcomes.

This is particularly important for science and history gives us examples to prove this. Most scientific discoveries have not come through by a single genius stroke of the mind by a single person however, it is the collaboration of alot of people who combined efforts have brought that result.

I had visited a school before corona virus with some of my peers as a team in a scientific competition. While I was strong in physics ,they were more skilled in biology and chemistry. During the competition, we all collaborated with each other sharing our thoughts and opinions and ultimately got 2nd place. That was the day I came to believe that collaboration is better than competition if one wishes to achieve their goals.

Life is not black and white neither is the way to progress neither competition nor collaboration are the way forward. Competition makes an individual work harder to come out on top and makes the individual give their work the best. Similarly collaboration as well makes people work together and helps get the best results. However both are double edged swords and are imperfect with cons of their own. Competitiveness can lead to destructive behaviour and a mindset of if I can't rise I will hold everyone else back down as well. Moreover collaboration can also lead to a mindset of not my priority and not taking work seriously. If every man worked together some men will not have a serious attitude as where he fails there are others who will rise. In addition if every man competes then for every man who succeeds there will be a 100 who failed.
The way forward for best results will be from competitive collaboration. Where people are competing but In a non destructive rather uplifting manner.

An example where competitive collaboration has helped would be my experience while participating in RoboCup Jr 2017. There were 4 teams from our school working together in one lab. We were all competing seperately in the competition but were helping each other few of our teams won commendation prizes and afterwards we got to go to ours schools annual fete and had a good time regardless.

We were all competing against each other and were working hard to be the best in our work but we were collaborating as we helped each other when we found some bugs in our programs or some errors in our sensors.

Aradhya Mukhopadhyay 10-A
Everybody has the liberty to their own opinions and I respect them all. In this case, I am against the opinion that there is an 'or' in this matter. Competition and collaboration walk hand in hand. With collaboration, competition is inevitable. With collaboration multiple minds are brought together and ideas, discoveries and breakthrough are brought about through a collective effort. But this effort also creates a drive. Each mind challenges the other, pushes them to think and work harder. And that drive is competition. On the other hand, with competition, individual minds will come up brilliant questions and extraordinary ideas. But they will not always have the complete understanding or knowledge of it. Without collaboration, two halves of a solution or an idea will always remain on either side of the wall known as competition and this wall shall obstruct progress in not only the field of science but also any other field. I am a student. And I am dancer. Competition is something that naturally developed since a young age. There isn't a particular event when I had a Eureka moment regarding the necessity of both competition and collaboration. It built up over the years. I saw that observing or hearing about someone's progress , efforts or success drove me to do better and to work harder. But working with someone to to achieve a goal made it more effective and more efficient. Studying alone would only allow me to retain the information. But studying with someone else would allow me to learn new things, know my capacity and my level of understanding. It allowed to me achieve my goal and also attain a beneficial bonus. As a dancer, dancing together in a group challenges me to be best and also shows me more varieties of styles and methods of executing the steps. Competition and collaboration alone will not allow me to push myself, grow and learn simultaneously. Therefore , I conclude that for progress to occur efficiently and effectively, there cannot be a choice between competition and collaboration as they are not mutually exclusive.

The concept of collaboration and competition is something that goes hand in hand. They are two sides of the same coin. In many cases, competition has helped bring out the best in people, it keeps them on their toes, makes them take collective and cautious steps and keeps any individual's fire to win ignited, but at the same time it remains extremely divisive and predominantly has negatives effects on an individual's mental health, causes corruption and trickery.
Collaboration, on the other hand, focuses on a collection of different views and ideas from a no. Of persons that help us expand not only our knowledge but also open our eyes to new possibilities. It allows us to bounce ideas and observation off of our colleagues to come up with something far better than anticipated, but it makes discussion making that much harder and more time consuming and it may also lead to in-group fights etc.
On the topic of science, I believe and a homogenous mixture of both would be the most beneficial but to chose, collaboration is the best route.
Science is all about one's curiosity and hunger to unravel the workings and mystery of the universe and everything residing in it. Working together on such topics can only enhance our ideas and make achieving such goals easier and more efficient.
An instance of such an incident in my life would be soothing very recent, when a few of my friends and I started studying together at least once a week in order to keep up with our studies, clearing each other's doubts whenever needed and in doing so further increasing our understanding on the topics

Collaboration helps us to trust each other and gives us a spirit of teamwork. It also gives us a sense of understanding the views and ideas of different people. With collaboration anything can be achieved. Whereas with competition we get into a race and everyone wishes to come first and in this process we miss all the things that we could enjoy with collaboration. This competition also brings a sense of jealousy in us.
I also want to share an experience where collaboration was better than competition. Last year there was a project in science in which we had an option to do it in groups of four people or alone but I chose the group option as I felt that it would be nice to know the ideas of my classmates. I felt that in this way we will understand each others view points and I was right the accumulation of ideas resulted in a wonderful project.

i think that competition encourages people to work harder, to work better, to deliver more efficient products.

However, speaking in the context of science, this competitive nature also slows down collaboration. Since the more one collaborates with others, the more likely they will reach results faster. collaboration gives us a chance to get to know others and helps us to work in a team and it also helps us learn how to cooperate with others.

Competition encourages people to work harder, to work better, to deliver more efficient products. But if many people work on same issue we could see faster results.

ARYAN GUPTA
10 D
The competitive spirit is a central element of human nature. Think about some of the ways we compete, both big and small, in our lives:

Collaboration, on the other hand, is all about progressing as a whole. There is no winner unless the entire group crosses the finish line together.

In that light, collaboration is bigger than one person. It’s a culture. Any staff member, department, or organization that wants to prioritize collaboration over competition needs to weave it into the very fabric of who they are.

I experienced this when I was in class 9 when I took part in a competition in which I enrolled as an individual initially but preparing for it I got very jumbled up and then at last I asked my classmates whether they wanted to take part in the competition with me as a team and then we made a group of five and we finished our work within a week and even better than I could have done individual so this taught me a lesson that when we are in competition we do not get many ideas and we become very unorganized but in a collaboration we can get more and more ideas which help us to get a very refined and effective idea and it becomes easier for everyone member to do their part and this combined effort is always fruitful and helps enhance our coordination and relations with our team

Both collaboration and competition have their own pros and cons. One brings up a sense of teamwork while the other helps us to understand where we truly are standing in the “true world”.
In a wolf pack, we find collaboration and competition. The wolves collaborate to hunt a deer. After the hunt is complete they compete for the flesh, with the alpha taking the biggest bite. In a deer herd also we find collaboration and competition. The deer collaborate to protect the young from predators. But they compete as to who is at the front of the herd (safest spot) and who is the laggard at the back and who is in the flanks. Management today gives us mixed signals.
Collaboration slows us down and makes us think and test more. A sharing culture only works if the ideas are worth sharing. Slowly, we are turning away from the old models. Let’s hope it’s not too late.
Once collaboration is in place, people are much more trusting of each other, more willing to stretch themselves and more likely to create amazing results.

X-A
I have grown accustomed to working alone. It is not very often that one could find me working as a part of a team however there is one particular instance that I’d like to share. In grade fifth I was assigned the duty to make all the badges for the class for our visit to the Chhatarpur farms, I remember that I was incredibly stressed because a responsibility like that couldn’t help but seem monstrous to a 10 year old. My friends decided to help me and we worked together as a team. Not only did we get the work done in time, I also garnered countless memories. That day I was introduced to the numerous benefits of working as a team.

DESHNA MAHANTA
10C
Collaboration takes us further than competition

First, it’s important to examine competition and collaboration in the context of individuals, teams, and work environments. When it comes to competition, people are:

Driven to achieve results through fear

Prompted to perform beyond minimum requirements

Encouraged to outperform their peers

As for collaborative environments, he writes that individuals:

Stress less about losing their jobs

Avoid the “fight or flight” instinct and thus improve creative brain functions.

Brainstorm and share ideas with peers more willingly.

While a competitive work environment drives results, the way it drives them is by being fear-driven, overworked, and individualistic. Collaborative environments also drive results, but by way of positivity, teamwork, and creativity.

People often get faced with ultimatums in life. Science, or commerce? Buying an iPhone or an Android when you need a phone? To eat this food, or something else tonight? All of these are choices many people are faced with, however, the paths relating to collaboration and competition, are not completely ultimatums in themselves, they are in a class of their own.

What is science about? Science is the culmination of great minds contributing together to reach a successful and beneficial conclusion on topics which can make our day to day life better, as well as bettering the big picture stuff too, right? Well, for us to get said results, we need to set an environment and a nature suitable for prospering this. That is when the debate between competition and collaboration comes into play. Should we set an environment based on team skills, or individualistic talent?
I find that if a person is sociable and amiable, or weak at something, it helps to put them in a collaborative environment(where they can work well with others and boost them as well as themselves; or if they are weak, they can be uplifted and have the ability to use the experience and help of others around them in enhancing their skills), whereas if they are really strong at something or just a bit introverted, putting them in an individual team is more beneficial(if they are extremely proficient at it, they can work alone to not be burdened down, but if they are willing to work with others, then it is better for the weak members of the prospect team; and if they are introverted, they’ll work better alone, since they shouldn’t be ^forced^ to do something they aren’t comfortable with). Other than basing the choice on the personalities and the minds of the persons, there is not much we can do.
On a personal note, I see myself as a student with team qualities, but with sort of subpar leadership skills. I have not encountered many such challenges wherein I was made to choose between either of these(due to the introverted nature I possessed when I was younger), but if asked, I assume I would base it on the nature and minds of the people I am to be working with/against.

Well, we can always choose about how we want to overcome situations in our lives, sometimes a collaborative environment boosts up your will and makes you feel you’ve strengthened w their support and rest of the times the competitiveness can always be a reason for the “push” you needed in your life. It all depends on which perspective suits you and I think everybody needs a difference kind of “push” in life whether it is the competitiveness around or the collaborative environment. What’s more important is what your mindset is about, the more focused and solely dedicated you are to your career, your goals, and how far you want to achieve would surely make you more certain about how you want to act out when things aren’t in a straight line.

Both competition and collaboration have their own advantages . Competition helps us identify who is the smartest and most hardworking . A person can not achieve success without doing hard work. Competition makes a person do more hardwork and get better results , which is actually very beneficial for people . Moreover competition tells you your actual position that where you stand and what you should do to improve your results.on the other side collaboration is also very important for an individual as working in teams enable us to be quicker and more effective . I remember a moment from my life when I achieved my first medal on my sports day in an obstacle race in which I was teamed up with my friend and our coordination was so good that we won. On that day I realised that collaboration is must in our lives .so , my intension is to say that both competition as well as collaboration is important for a person to get success.

Rhea Nagpal
10 B
According to me if we're talking about what contributed to science competition or collaboration. I think it's collaboration as science provides us technology and services that helps us in doing stuff. Competitiveness won't only create bad blood amongst scientists but it also leads to stress and anxiety amongst individuals and they have that mind set that they have to be first and dont think about the contribution to science. This stress can force students to push back other interests and extracurricular activities, leading to an unbalanced life but there are 2 types of competition healthy competition and unhealthy competition. Healthy competition is the epitome of team spirit and being a contributing member of a tribe. Someone who partakes in healthy competition wants to succeed, but also derives joy from seeing others succeed. Competition is unhealthy when it presupposes that there's only a limited amount of success or achievement available out there in the world. Competition can become even unhealthier when it's oriented towards tearing others down. Whereas collaboration works with working together, interacting and sharing ideas which ultimately leads to speeding up of things. It creates good relations between the people working together. Collaboration contributes to science as the scientists share their ideas and speed up the process which stregthens maturity as a researcher. I remember it was a science competition with 2 rounds 1 was individual and had competition i could not succeed but luckily it was just a prepatory round the next round included partners that were selected by the team itself based on how we performed in the first one. Me and my friend worked as a team together our ideas first opposed each other but then we worked together and won. So i think collaboration is more effective than competition. Competition leads to comparison and comparison is the thief of joy. Stay away from it

''None of us is as smart as all of us"- Ken Blanchard. Truer words have never been spoken. The quote the early bird catches the prey is quite accurate, but the sad reality in India is that the majority of children are made to grow in an environment that teaches us the bird needs to kill the others in its way to reach the prey and must not share the prey no matter what the cost. The competitive nature is embedded, more like forced, into the youthful minds of children from a young age by their parents. Instead of pushing children to make happy and healthy relationships with their peers they are used as pawns and petted against each other. This tends to make them more introverted, anxious, unsettled, pessimistic, and in overall socially awkward and distant. This further leads to various mental illnesses like depression, anxiety, insomnia, etc. I initially thought that my group music lessons would not turn out to be effective and would be a waste of time. We had a musical scholarship coming up. Even though the competition was for each contestant individually we had our classes together. Learning together made us correct each other's mistakes and give each other valid tip on voice modulation. Though I must say we spent a lot of our time laughing, talking and wasting our time, it helped us to build up a momentum for practice and managed to bring a healthy competition within the group which enabled me to perform better. At the day of the competition I genuinely wished that it would never happen as it would indicate the end of our group sessions. I could not win the competition but it was my peer who won it. It did not make me jealous of sad, it just made me feel contend. I was filled with a sense of pride. she won because of all of our efforts put together that meant that a part of me won.I would like to conclude by quoting napoleon hill- “It is literally true that you can succeed best and quickest by helping others succeed.”

I would like to begin with the quote, 'competition makes us faster but collaboration makes us better '. While competition
helps us build our confidence and be prepared to live in a world where competing is necessary to survive and thrive successfully, it further leads to comparison which at last leads to differences amongst people. There is no sense of collectivness and togetherness when we compete. For instance if someone has better competitive skills than the other person, he gets a feeling of superiorness. This not only makes the opponent feel inferior but also makes him doubt his skills and so he feels dicouraged. Whereas at the same time, collaboration contradicts this ideology and brings creative minds together and enables them to indulge to achieve the goal they all came together for. It allows us to expand our horizon and think from the perspectives of different people having different mindsets. When we compete we start focusing on being better than our component rather than focusing on what we are competing for and when we collaborate, we give rise to teamwork and focus on achieving our goal as one. Collaboration gives rise to creativity as when we get to know the different views on one thing we aĺso try to think differently than what we did before.I would like to share a similar expirience i had when i took part in an interhouse competition where i was competing against my friends. We all were given a specific time to complete our presentations but as we were doing it without any help, many of us were unable to complete it and so we decided to collaborate and make our presentations by helping each other and so it turned out that my friends and I won the competition together with equal credits and contributions. This is one of the many examples where it has been proved that two heads are better than one and that if we move together ,we succeed together and achieve more than what we will achieve alone because 'the more the merrier'. Lastly i would like to say that if u help others and collaborate with them instead of competing, you will reach great heights as Jin Kwon said, "individuality counts but teamwork dynamites"
