(LGBTQ) Though LGBTQ have civil rights now, the LGBTQ community still hasn't been fully accepted yet in our society. Many people who have important roles also haven't fully acknowledged the acceptance of the LGBTQ people. For example, President Trump put a ban on Transgenders joining the military (and discharged trans that are IN the military). This has sent out a big message; that it's okay to still hate LGBTQ people. Though laws have been passed, (marriage equality) there's still many forms of discrimination towards the LGBTQ community today.

While President Obama did make same sex marriage legal, President Trump has (somewhat) recently passed a ban on trans gendered people in the military. If someone has the passion to protect the US by joining the army, why should they be denied entry.

Police brutality has become an issue against African American people. Although the 14th amendment says we are all equal, they are not being treated equal.

As discrimination against the LGBTQ community as existed since the establishment of the United States, most recently has this group’s rights have been protected through the Defense of Marriage Act. Passed during Obama’s presidency, it states that same sex marriage is constitutional, opening opportunity for equal rights for its members. This act provides protection of their rights and awareness for the public, however there are still more ways that more of their rights could be protected, such as the example of allowing transgenders to join the military.

African Americans rights have been protected throughout the years by making laws that abolished slavery and opening up opportunities for them to be able to start a life and succeed in it. I feel like their is lots of laws now that protect them and give them rights that make everyone equal to each other. Some of these being the right to have education so that they get a career in the future and possibly live the American Dream.

Since the Europeans came to the Americas, Native Americans have time and time again received offenses such as Americanization, displacement, and lack of representation. Currently, Native Americans on reserves are being denied access to public goods. Many reservations lack running water, electricity, and proper health care institutions as well. In addition, Native American sentiment against the building of facilities on reservations are often ignored as the United States continues to build pipelines, buildings, and more on Native American land.

We still hear the KKK killing blacks not as much as before but it still happens. Another Example, is in protests against other groups they are getting physically attacked. I believe the blacks attack back but do in self-defense. I feel like this world judge the blacks of something that their not. I don't think civil rights defends you from not being racially offended , because I can say something to you right now and what, Does that give you a right o defend yourself? yes, but it won't change or I won't be able to take back what I said. People still these days everyday are either getting racially discriminated or they are the ones getting racially discriminated.

For far too long, the rights of women were not yet granted which was something that was found very unreasonable. During this time women were under-served in the work place. This was at a time of unequal pay between men and women. This began to improve during the 1800s when they began to fight the topic. To protect the rights of woman, the 19th amendment has gone into the constitution, which says, that the rights should not be determined through gender. Also falling in favor of women, came the Equal Pay Act of 1965 and Pregnancy Discrimination Act. The most recent event remembered in which the women's rights were sought out for was the Women's March which happened on January 21st to advocate legislation and policies regarding human rights.

Alright, so for the majority of United States history, African Americans had pretty much no rights, but from the civil war and Lincoln's Emancipation Proclamation, hope for future civil rights began. Although at this point, things were indeed looking bright, African Americans had to endure much discrimination from people. Police brutality, segregation, hate groups ( like the KKK), and actual laws which prevented African Americans from voting, like literacy tests, and poll taxes. But throughout the 1960s conditions improved greatly because of the civil rights movement, Dr. King being the face of said movement, and one of the most inspirational peaceful civil rights leaders' in the world. Although Africans Americans still experience discrimination, legislative action has established laws to protect their civil rights.

Even though, in California, we see more acceptance around the state; many people in this community face hate in other states like the south and other conservative states. 12 out of 50 states have protection laws for LGBTQ individuals. However, defense of Marriage Act was passed, this gave the community a small step for equal opportunity and rights. The community has much to fight for but is slowly improving.

In 2016 the shooting in a club in Orlando, is a great example of what hate still prevails in this country. Trump's ban of transgenders in the military definitely caused controversy , because after all of the LGBTQ's triumph in this country, Trump all of the sudden revokes their ability to join the military. Very hypocritical of him, because during his campaign he supported. Nonetheless, the LGBTQ community will continue to thrive regardless of what others need to say.

At first he had stated that he would not try to revoke their right to be married has the Supreme Court already ruled it constitutional and his job is to obey the law. This seemed like a huge step towards equality for the LGBTQ Community, having a Republican President who is somewhat supporting the community. However, with his recent ban on Transgendered people in the military it seems that the LGBTQ community's rights as human beings will be violated by the President who said he would stand by them.

Their rights have been later protected after 1977 when Harvey Milk was assassinated in office. The rainbow flag he flew is now the logo for the community and since then they have slowly started to gain their rights back. A current event that tights it all together as being a protected culture is the 2015 law of legal gay marriage. This ensured that states can not deny any form of couple to get married. Many new generations of children are growing up to respect and accept the LGBT as a normal community and not an outcast like other generations have.

Today, though, there are acts helping in their physical accommodations in the workplace, educational enrichment, etc. I still think that disabled or mentally handicapped people are still sheltered or forgotten by society. They don't have quite as much press coverage as other groups. Also, not a lot of places have wheelchair elevators, admission for service animals, implements and aids for specific handicaps, etc. The Monterey Bay Aqaurium, for example, has textured sculptures for the blind, a wheelchair elevator, interpreters, and a lot of activities. It even has a quiet lounge for nursing. It would be amazing if all places had some type of way to include those with disabilities. In schools too, regular students have no experience with those who are disabled or mentally handicapped in our school. The world would be better if we knew how to approach or talk to everyone around us and be friendly. Overall, this group's rights have been protected but there is still more that can be done to improve their conditions.

Throughout American history, the LGBTQ community has faced great discrimination. They have been disregarded by employers and the military, and have been ridiculed by the everyday citizen. In recent events, America has progressed in the opinion regarding the LGBTQ community. States have become more accepting of this community, especially liberal states such as California. These states have even allowed marriage of the LGBTQ community. The defense of Marriage Act had redefined what marriage was, giving members of the LGBTQ the right to marriage. This is a huge win for the community and a huge step towards America's acceptance of them.

On the other hand, I also believe that their rights aren't being as protected as they should. An example of this is the recent attempted repeal of DACA by President Trump which will, if it actually happens, send many 'Dreamers" back to a country that they've never really known since they were brought here to American, by their parents, when they were really young. There is also still mass discrimination against Chicano Americans which is only becoming worse as time goes on.

Throughout American history many of the Chicanx community have suffered from discrimination, lack of representation and colonization. The vast majority of the community come from immigrant families who have escaped to the United States to live out the "American Dream" and chase the opportunities in the country that aren't provided by their own. Many of the community members, mainly the younger people within, struggle through the inability to be able to identify themselves, constantly getting back lash from both Americans and their own people. One of the main factors that devastate the Chicanx community is the constant discrimination in regards to immigration. Many of the members face violence and mental damage by racial slurs or other means of bullying; many having to stand up for their own family members and becoming their unheard parents' voice. In the year of 2017, Trump decide to threat the DACA (Deffered Action for Childhood Arrivals) program, causing a mass devastation within the community considering that over 90% of the applicants are Latino, many Chicanx.

There have been countless times where I have been somewhere and seen a sign saying that it is handicapped accessible yet I see no ramp, no elevator for wheel chairs, nothing. There are still not enough jobs for them nor establishments that they can easily enter to have as easy a life as possible. There should be more places like a McKinney's Hugs Cafe; the entire staff is workers with down syndrome. It is so hard for them to get a job because people thing they are less capable than we are, but they still have extraordinary skills that we have not yet tapped in to.
