Listening from within

In this video I focus on the sounds in the background, what I can hear is; wind, footsteps beneath the gravel, I see the people in front of me moving slowly up the hill as I hang back, I hear the people talking in front of me. This video reminds me of the way children can listen to the things around them, more specifically the concept deep listening as deep listening includes both concepts of listening and hearing as they include different areas of the body. This is important in a classroom setting children who can deep listen to the sounds of the outdoors are able to concentrate on the world around them and paying attention to concepts that are learning.

Listening, Thinking then reflecting

Being connected to nature is not being afraid of of the silence is important. In this video we observe the huge sounds of wind on an overcast and stormy day. In Dadirri they talk about how no one is afraid or questions this silence. This silence is the strong gush of winds as children usually would prefer to stay inside or they would be scared to go out in the open, cold wind. This important to not be afraid during these times and can be related back to the classroom and how children not need to question but just do certain things. This is important as I believe students have an active mind, sometimes it is better to sit and listen and reenacting the instructions, then having time to reflect and think.

Listening to the needs to the child

In this video there is a lush bush with a sound of a water running through the stream. The trees and leaves are moving slowly as the wind blows it softly and the stream is moving slowly. Some children may view this in different ways, some children may see the stream as an inputs for climate change and how we can learn about the environment, some children may see the stream and want to go down and explore with their hands in the water, some children may swim in the water, some children may just follow other children with what they’re doing, some children may be too afraid to go down and will just view from the top. This is all related to the 100 languages of the child. Children have their own way of viewing the world and learning and this is okay as long as we allow them within reason.

Children are musical from birth

This video is a depiction of an adult dancer performing on the streets. Why do we never see children being applauded for there dancing and singing? Children are just as capable when moving within a space. Children in my eyes are seen as naturally musical from birth and then the musical in them has been drawn out of them as they get older. Children can move within a space naturally and in some cases better in comparison to an adult.
