Hello my name is Jesslyn, im turning 20 this year and I am a student in Bachelors of Mass communication. I really like bread and chonky cats and I also have a very weird obsession with disturbing food pictures.

After almost 2 years of lockdown and now in the endemic stage, my life has changed a lot and I have easily adapted to the new norm. my daily routines have been easier with the help of new media. in my opinion New media has definitely made life under lockdown better.

A new media that was extremely beneficial to me was FaceTime , as it kept me sane throughout the lockdown. I enjoy being around my friends a lot and not being able to see them definitely made me wanna jump off a cliff :D but with the help of FaceTime I was able to connect easily with them anywhere and everywhere, even till now FaceTime is a new media that I use daily. The only downside of the app is that if your wifi is bad then obviously the calls would be a pain in the doo doo. I felt happy to be able to communicate with my loved ones as well during this hard time but it would be better being able to experience such contentment in real life.

Although the lockdown has brought a lot of positive changes into my life, I would still to go back to how things were before the pandemic. I got my final year of high school taken away from me and my part time job stopped midway due to the rise of cases, I felt like I missed out on so many opportunities that would give me more exposure to the world and I want to experience everything that I missed. Other than that, being able to go back to how things was would be better to me as I believe things and life is always better when we are able to live the moments physically and not through a digital screen.

Thank you for reading <3 bye :D

Hey! im Arjun Narula, I am 19 years old. I am originally from India but I was born and brought up in Oman (a country in middle east). I love playing videogames and watching anime lol

In my opinion, new media has made life under lockdown easier and more convenient. Everything from classes, business, groceries to even barbers and house cleaning has become online. Everything was more accessible and convenient in the comfort of your own house. Staying in touch with distant family also became much easier.

I like the way things are now as compared to before. Being in the comfort of your own couch or desk while working or studying has made things much easier and convenient.

I like the convenience of having all the facilities in my pocket (as a smartphone). But something I don't like is how addictive it can get. Social medias like Instagram, YouTube, Tiktok, etc can be super addicting and lead to loneliness and depression. It often causes a lot of procrastination and time waste as well.

Hello, I am Su from Myanmar. My hobbies are watching K-drama and dancing. I love chocolate.🧸🌸

I personally think new media make life under lockdown better. The major reason is because even though we cannot attend the traditional classrooms we could still access to education with ease.
Although there are more advantages in how things are now, I still prefer time before pandemic. This is because elementary and middle school students these days are extremely used to the technology-induced lifestyle. So, there barely go out to play and missed the opportunities of making friends in traditional classrooms.
Furthermore, I frequently use movie streaming websites where I can easily watch latest releases and YouTube where I can easily access information. However, Instagram which is also part of my daily routine stole track of time whenever I scroll down the feed.

Hi my name is Matthew from Bachelors of Mass Comm it is actually my 2nd year of my degree programme and it is nice to be here.

New media has definitely helped me through my first two years of tertiary studies as the pandemic started the moment I graduated from high school. We had to use apps like Microsoft Teams and Zoom for our classes and we had to attend them from home. Of course this made it possible for me to be able to attend classes virtually without breaking the quarantine and it also made it easier in a way to acquire learning materials like notes and slides from my lectures online using the Times website. It took a while to get used to it especially after years of learning in classes but it was manageable in the end. I would say the most frustrating or annoying thing is it was difficult to get to know my peers o a more personal scale, where we were only able to talk to each other during our online classes where 90% of the time we would have our cameras off and would barely break the ice in talking to each other. It also made it slightly difficult when doing group assignments where sometime some group members would suddenly go MIA or would pretty much ignore our messages and texts or there was some sort of misunderstanding in our group chats. With apps like Discord and social media platforms like Instagram and Whatsapp, I was able to still talk with friends and family, but it was difficult to make new friends or to meet new people. Sometimes I did feel lonely during the pandemic period although being able to talk to people online as I feel that it was always better to meet people and make connections with people physically and in person and I think the need for it only grew more over time as the pandemic went on. I would definitely prefer having physical classes at campus and being able to go out and do things like going out and eating food or meet ng up with friends and family and do outdoor activities, but the addition of new media platforms and the advancement of communication technology has only made it easier for connections with other people to stay strong regardless of distance or in the occurrence of any unfortunate circumstances.

Hi, I am Grace. I am a Sarawakian. I am studying Bachelor of Mass Communication in Advertising and Brand Management. New media have helped my lockdown life to be more fun as I can chat with friends online using text-messaging applications. Also, I can get food and beverages delivered to me via contactless delivery through food-delivering apps. However, my screen time had increased compared to life before the lockdown. Yes, I like the way things are now as the news media has saved me a lot of time having to queue in a long queue and get my food paid for and check out faster. Being an introvert, technologies in news media allow me to socialize online in a more convenient way. However, consuming too much information from the news media may make me feel stressed and have headaches, as we can only see the scenery through past social media posts like vlogs shot in 2018, 2019, etc. It also reduces the time I could spend with my family, and I miss that a lot when we get together for family gatherings and chat physically. For the last question, I would rate 60% agree with it as news media does not always have cons, for example, if I am studying abroad, I could still make video calls or voice calls with my family and gets close to them although aren't physically attached.

Such as reading emails or going on g-mail to check on my emails. As many things went online and we were stuck at home, adapting to the new enviroment of doing classes in my bedroom instead of the classroom changed my perspective and i grew from that experience of all the bored and annoying days of becoming a near robot. the experience wasnt good nor bad, but it can be simplified that it has its ups and down.

I cant really imagine myself going back to a time where my adaption of new media and become a part of my routine and i would do it automaticallty, returning back to the time where i wasn’t able to do these activities might break me honestly.

the one thing i like is that i’m able to make my life alot more organized, and that im interconnected with so many friends that are across the world and im able to talk to them with ease despite of the large ocean seperating us, but one thing i do not like is that it could feel that it has taken over my life and i seem to work to live than live to work. ive had everything sorted yet im unable to have a life which is annoying.

Hello everyone, my name is ZhangYing, and you can call me Elorza. I am studying Mass Communication in digital media production. I’m from China, and I think I’m easy to get along with, hope to make friends with you guys.

After two years of lockdown, our life has changed a lot. During the time of lockdown in china, we could not go out every day but we can go out once every two or three days to buy things at the supermarket. However, apps are really convenient for us and we can order food, vegetables, or some necessities through apps. These delivery apps brought great convenience to our life, and we could even deliver things to elderly people at home alone. But we need to scan the QRcode for enter into the public places, it’s kind of complex for us, especially for elder people.

And during that time, I am familiar with this kind of life mode, it made my life much easier, and I can do most of the things at home with the new media. In my opinion, new media made life better under lockdown, everyone could work or study at home. And at the same time, we can receive all information through social media.

Actually, I would like to go back to before the pandemic, people could easily hang out with friends and travel around the world easily, although the new media had made our life better, it’s not that free to do a thing. And human could free from disease. I often use wechat to communicate with my friends, and I can also see the pictures sent by my friends on this app and share their lives. I like to see how they lives even I am far away from them. However, the app sometimes gets stuck, especially when I'm video call with friends. Network issues could also cause a lot of problems.

Hi guys, nice to meet all of you in this class. My name is Guan Xin ,an eighteen years old girl from China.

The social media I used to use is QQ and bilibili. For some reason, Chinese people can’t use the media like twitter or google or Facebook in China, so we have our own social media to use.

Bilibili is a media which is similar to YouTube, and it doesn’t have any ads. You can post your own videos on it and get fans. You can also make money from it. Here are still a lot of reasons for young people to choose this kind of social media.

Actually these short video media like YouTube, tik tok, douyin and bilibili are staying in our daily life for such a long time, especially these years in Covid 19 time.

As the development of technology and media, these kind of new life is of course better than before. People can learn more information from social media and make friends and connect with others and so on.

Things before pandemic were obviously good enough to us, but as the old saying goes, take the best and leave the worst. Since times are progressing, we should bring better technology and ability to create something better. Humanity should not look back but forward.

The new media exists to bring people closer to technological life and to deliver effective information more quickly.
In this respect, we should avoid the negative effects of the arrival of new media, such as the large amount of negative information that affects our emotions and thoughts. In an age of information, people have to learn to think proactively rather than having their positions impacted by information on the Internet.

As media professionals, it is our responsibility to convey information correctly and positively.

For some case, there were times when school activities were carried out offline and I couldn't come for some reason, I was still able to take part in lessons by joining zoom meetings and this was very different from before the pandemic where when we weren't present we would miss lessons.

For me, I really like new media because it really makes one's daily activities easier.

Hello my name is Mohamed Shavir Rasheed, but everyone refers to me as Shavi. I’m currently enrolled in Bachelors of Mass Communication (Honours) in Advertising and Brand Management. I’m from Malé which is the capital city of Maldives. My hobbies include swimming, playing video games, and listening to music. I’m very open to almost every genre of music and movies/series, there is always something to checkout. I also love experimenting in the kitchen trying out new recipes for my friends and family to enjoy. I was working as a Technician at a Security Company before I was let go just as the pandamic hit my country.

When it comes to new media and how it has affected my life while I was under lockdown, I can definitely say that it was a massive help and I don’t think I would have made it out of the lockdown period without going a little insane. There were times where I couldn’t see my family members due to the severity of the virus, even though we lived under the same roof and that was a little depressing. Even though they were a text or a video call away, it can never be a same as talking to them face to face or even embracing them. My girlfriend lived just 10 mins away from me but it felt like she was all the way in another country. Going from seeing each other a few times every week, to total isolation for over a year straight was hard, but the ability to video call her and use little google extensions such as Netflix party to watch series and movies together helped us get through the pandemic.
I’m not sure if video games count as a form of new media but that was the biggest help for me. Hours would fly by as me and my friends would jump into a virtual world together, and it was the greatest compared to other forms of new media since you can actually interact with them through the game.

As much as I liked how things were back in the days before the pandemic, the advancements that we have made in new media would never have come this soon and efficiently if it wasn’t for the lockdowns. Quality of life has been improved as you can perform many tasks digitally without being there in person, such as going to work through a virtual space, or ordering food online (in Maldives food and other delivery services were very new and really took off once the pandemic hit).

Although new media has brought in many positives such as connectivity, improvements to making everyday tasks more accessible, and the great selection of entertainment, it has some downsides. Some forms of new media prey on your valuable information and it gives you no choice but to provide it to them, otherwise you won’t be allowed to use those forms of media.

Hi! My name is Nadya and I’m from Indonesia. I’m currently a first year student studying Mass Communication. When I’m not busy studying or doing my assignments, I usually spend hours scrolling on TikTok and binge-watching my favorite shows on Netflix. I’m actually currently finishing season 5 of The Crown, which has become one of my top shows last year.

During the lockdown, I’ve discovered a new profound, yet toxic relationship with new media. Because I was restricted in going out and interacting with people face-to-face, I became chronically online; meaning that my life during the lockdown was nothing but attending countless Zoom meetings, watching and making TikToks, posting stories on Instagram, and watching all of the shows on my Netflix watchlist. New media became a safe space for me. I discovered and learned new things through social media, reached out to people I havent talked to in a while and learned how to adapt my routine to the new digital age. Frankly, I’ve been always “addicted” to social media, even before the pandemic, but the lockdown had made me more engrossed with the content that I consume online. My social anxiety has unfortunately became worse because of this, I spend so much time online that sometimes I forget how to interact and communicate with people in real life. There were plenty of times where I felt extremely lonely and fearful that my social skills wouldn’t go back to the way it used to be after the lockdown ended. I was scared that I’d had changed to be a completey different person and that I would lose all of my relationships that I’ve built throughout the years. Even though life has now gone back to “normal”, I’ve missed the person that I was before the pandemic, the Nadya who didn’t spend 12 hours a day on her phone and was able to mingle with anybody in real life without feeling anxious.

I would say that TikTok has definitely become my most used social media app. It’s fun to scroll through and you get endless funny and unique videos that cater to your interests. But I also hate the fact that TikTok can make you easily spend hours scrolling on your phone. Since there isn’t necessarily an end to your for you page, its hard for you to stop yourself from watching hundreds of 15 second videos everyday.

I’m still grateful for new media, albeit its downsides. It has allowed me to broaden my horizons and ha saccompanied me during my loneliest and darkest times in my life.

Hello my name is Li Hanrui and I’m from China. My major is mass communication.

I think new media made life better under the lockdown, because most of time of the lockdown, we stay at home by ourselves or only with our family. We can use new media to talk with people online and that really help us to prevent depression if we feel lonely. And we use new media when we are boring. And there is other reason because there are so many things happened to us under the lockdown and when we don’t know what to do, we can always post it online and ask for help.

New media do help us, but also have bad effects on us. It’s depends on how you use it. If people become obsessed with new media and they spend their hole day on new media and that is not good. The most important thing is t control ourselves. For me, I think now we use too many new media, and some of them are ok, but some of them are not good, like TikTok. I know TikTok is just for us to have fun. But these short video make us lose patience on other things. So I want to go back the time we use new media but not TikTok.

Hi everyone. My name is Vania Febe. I’m from Indonesia and i’m taking Bachelor of Masscom in PR&Marketing. I believe that new media has really affected our lives especially with the pandemic going on. Before the pandemic, the effects of these new medias in society weren’t that significant. For me personally, i used the basic social media apps like Instagram, Whatsapp, Line, and YouTube on a daily basis before the pandemic. These medias really helped me connect with my family and friends, as well as update me with the latest trends. During the pandemic, my usage of medias increased drastically. The few 5-6 apps that i used daily were now mounted up to 10-12 apps. The pandemic has made me search for as many forms as entertainment as possible from home, so i started using TikTok, Netflix, and even Steam. My screen time even went up to 12 hours per day during the pandemic. These new medias made lockdown more bearable as we had easy access to numerous entertainment and social media platforms. It also gave a huge rise to certain platforms such as Zoom and TikTok. On the other hand, i feel like it’s also made us become more reliant / dependent on our phones. New media also had its downsides during the pandemic because it also increased phone addiction among the youth and younger generations. But all in all, i believe that new media has made our lockdown life more useful.

These changes that were made throughout the pandemic has also affected me in my current life. I check my social medias more often, and i get bored so much easier due to the decreased attention span. Medias like TikTok that i used frequently during the pandemic is one of the main causes for this. So if i were to choose, i’d much rather choose a life before pandemic. where we all dont have to wear masks, and everything was normal. I feel like things right now are moving way too fast. We’re jumping from one trend to another, one new thing to another too quickly, especially due to the rise of new social media apps like TikTok and Douyin.

Another thing that i dislike from TikTok is that it really messes up with our attention span. It gives us way too much information at once, which is what makes it so addicting. I used to be able to read and finish books in one sitting, but now it’s become much harder for me to complete. The lasting effects of TikTok has made it hard for me to stay focused and sharp at certain times

The saying ‘Absence Makes the Heart Grow Fonder’ proves to be true, mainly during the pandemic. I am an introvert myself, but the lack of social interaction has made me crave it deeply during the pandemic. It goes the same with the absence of social media. When we stop using social medias, we will crave it even more. I think it’s one saying that we all can agree on.

Henloooo I’m Jings a PR and Marketing student who currently in my last semester of year 2. :D

I would say the pandemic had changed the way I consumed the new media tremendously. Before the pandemic, new media was mainly act as a tool of entertainment for me. However, when the pandemic first started to kick in new media became my tool to access education, information, to perform task and I even started freelancing journey. When the country first started to lock down, I was in my final year of Diploma. Not only I have to attend classes online, as a broadcast journalist student who have a lot of practical and performance classes our modules and assessments had to adapt and adopt new ways of doing it. For instance, instead of going to studio to do our live news broadcasting we utilise FB live to broadcast our news. I remember how overwhelmed and unsecured I was because back in studio all I need to do is just look into the camera and report the news but with FB Live I need to set up the equipments, run the live and do all the settings while presenting the news all by myself. It was really tough at first but after a few tries I get the hang of it and started to enjoy a lot. One of the new lights I get from the shift was with new media, I can reach to more audiences outside campus. If I do everything in the studio on campus I wasn’t able to reach the audience and get real feedbacks other than my lecturer.

As I mentioned I was in my final year, this also means that I have to did my internship online. I did my first internship with Malaysiakini and they were in full WFH mode that time. Without having a chance to meet my other colleagues, I started my internship at home in my hometown all alone. I was sooooo sooo terrified and overwhelmed because WhatsApp was the main communication tool for the producers to assign me tasks, give feedbacks and other communication. Not to mention, news agency is always very hectic sometimes is very hard to get my colleagues to help. Therefore, I have to get myself familiar with new media to do perform my tasks properly.

Before the pandemic I always thought ordering food from Grab is a luxury especially in small town like Penang island. However, after the pandemic I realise how convenient it is to order food online and it also provide job opportunities to others haha

All in all, I think the benefits and skills I gained with new media because of the pandemic are more than cons. I never knew new media can do so much. With just a device and Wi-Fi I can connect with the world despite we were all separated physically.

Hi, my name is Crystal and I'm currently in my first year studying Mass Comm. I love watching anime and playing genshin impact all day (oops-) when I'm not using digital gadgets, I write stories and novels.

I consume media almost on a daily basis and you'll never catch me anywhere without looking at my phone every 30 seconds. My life has changed significantly and thanks to new media it somehow open my eyes to a lot of new things. Now mostly with everything easier and accessible through online, be it the news, shopping, books, education, ewallets, and etc. I would say it was kinda strange and weird at first because you have to get around with how the apps function and I was so used to doing it physically before, now I had to like take some time to learn how to use it properly and even go search for tutorials/ hacks on YouTube. Despite that, I adapted it pretty quickly. If the world were to go back to the way things were would be challenging almost to an impossible scale because I would say the world has gone too far into the new digital age to go back to the physical traditional way.

I was already alone even before the pandemic started so I'm pretty much use to the loneliness to a certain extent. But when the pandemic started, my whole family had to work/study from home. Some things changed 'cause mostly now I see my parents and my sibling's face more often the moment I wake up, but family bonding such thing isn't really in my family's vocabulary and now we all consume new media almost immediately after we finish work. I think the worse part of new media under the lockdown for me is the fact that I had expectations to spend more time with my family. However, my family and I would rather consume media more often instead of socializing with each other. On the other hand, I don't really mind having new media because it made my life easier to cope and discover new things about myself and the world as well as getting to know other people through online.

I honestly like the way things are right now but at the same time because of such digitalisation, it makes me gradually become lazy and anxious to go out and physically socialize with other people. Before the pandemic, I felt like I was lowkey built different like the one social butterfly that can make friends with anyone, get up at 6am to school then juggle 5 to 6 tuitions a week and still be active in extra school activities and get decent grades. But now after the pandemic, I feel like I got slapped in the face like I can't even get up early for an 8am class or even properly start a conversation with new people. Because there's media now, everything seems so flexible and I tend to get extremely self aware with my surroundings now whenever I go out to touch grass or something.

Absence makes the heart grow fonder. I think in my situation in the context of new media use during the lockdown is rather true. Sometimes even though I'm communicating with my friends through online, I kind of miss their presence. But then again, I don't have many friends so at least throughout the lockdown I managed to cut off toxic people in my life. :')

I like the way things are now.Through different kinds of medias, I have known more information about study methods, life experiences, and so on, during the pandemic. Many people make more money by exploiting the information gap. So DOUYIN develops very fast during the 3 years. And people are used to media. However, when the pandemic is over, more people can’t live without it. Even when people have the party, they just use these medias. To some extents, it makes people alienated. But I still hope to use it often to get more information, and I can release my pressure by this way.

My name is Gary from Indonesia. My hobby are creating 3d art renders and playing video games(The good ones specifically.)

The way I see with new media changing life during lockdowns, it seems to be better than life was in pre-covid. When the lockdown was in full effect in responds to the dangers of COVID-19, I originally applied to a private Singaporean university but I did not have the chance to study in Singaporean after that. Ever since the lockdown for about 2 years, the internet accessibility was in priority to keep connected to the internet for education purposes. Influencers have been increasing by a ton in hopes to get through the lockdown for success. My life during lockdown with new media somewhat change my life. Stuck in home, I am still able to get to do some work rather than being cooped up in my room being playing games all the time.

Now with the things as of now, it actually got better but worse at the same time. Streaming services become more dominant in revenue hence the subscription services provide access to a ton of films in many genres. That is the only good part but the worst parts were well-known influencers have stoop to a new low by promoting crypto scams. Second, TikTok got extremely popular but it has become addictive and the content is sometimes... questionable.

What I like with the media than I frequently use was the internet access. Everywhere I go, I will always need access to the internet to find research content.

How much of this is becoming true with new media is actually beyond my understanding at this moment. It is somewhat true since I have been into the internet for more than 2 years before the pandemic.

You can call me Yan, if you feel that my name isn't easy to pronounce. I'm 23 now, turning 24 this December. If you are wondering why I'm 'old', I actually used to study 3 years of medicine at a different university before I transfer to Taylors last year. Why did I quit medicine? I hate the busy schedule of it, 8-5 classes every day, tests every week, and days and days of the night shift. Currently, I'm studying in Bachelor of Mass Communication.

The reason why I'd been talking about my study life in medicine is that, during the lockdown, I was still in med school. I did think that new media make our lives a lot better during the lockdown, as we are still able to access knowledge and information without having to travel to the library or bookstore, and most importantly those are free! Also, our studies or businesses are still able to run thanks to the new media, as we can connect with our lecturers, friends, customers or employers from time to time.

The biggest difference in my life before the pandemic and during the lockdown will definitely be the mode of study. I used to have to visit the hospital every week and be in the classroom for almost half of the day. however, during the lockdown everything becomes online, I just have to stay in my bed to attend all the classes. I actually enjoyed it, as I'm a self-learner, so I've more time to study on my own when all the recordings are available. Other than that, it also gives me time to think about whether I like medicine.

As for me, I like how things are like now. Online classes are mainly available which saves our time and energy to travel. And a lot of things can be done online now with a single click, like online shopping, food delivery, watching movies and more which really saves up a lot of time, thanks to new media!! I also like how we don't have to bring paper notes and syiling when we go out, with Tng or grab wallet in our phone, we can basically pay for many things.

The new media that I frequently used will be Douyin. What I like about it is I actually do learn a lot of fun facts and knowledge through it, it also brings laughter to my life and swipes away my boredom. However, the bad side is it could be very addictive, and I might spend my whole day on the app without doing anything proper in my real life.

Hello everyone! I’m Welvin from Digital Media Production Mass Com. 20 years old this year and nice to meet you all! I love and enjoy new media! I need new media all the time! Not only during the pandemic, I very rely on new media before the pandemic！

New media made my life easier and of course under lockdown. Let’s discuss one of the most important “new media” under lockdown which is Grab! Grab save my life! I tested positive under lockdown, so I can’t go everywhere, Grab Food to save my life! I can easily order food using Grab without going out from home and also get my medicine or any daily necessities using Grab! Not only that, staying 24 hours x 7 days in a room is boring! I have to find some entertainment for myself and the best new media at that time is YouTube and Netflix! YouTube and Netflix accompanied me through the whole lockdown and quarantine period!

If let me choose before or after the pandemic, I have considered this question myself before, I'll talk about my interest in media design. I used to prefer everything before the pandemic, because at that time the design of media including video making, photography skills, etc was not very developed and everyone who understood it was very limited, so there was less competition. But because of the pandemic, everyone has access to this and has the changes to try these, so everyone is getting better and the competition is getting bigger. But in the end, I chose after the pandemic because it was the competition that made me keep learning and making myself and my skills better.

Until the state lockdown so far, we can easily meet people we want to see, and we can go out to other countries at any time, and I feel that entertainment media is not so important to me. And I think the important new media will be GPS And transportation type of new media such as Waze, google maps or grab. If there are no entertainment media, we can chat with friends about entertainment, but if there are no new media such as GPS, we need to know and be more familiar with the map of Malaysia. So I think the new media of GPS and transportation is more important!

Hello! My name is Deepti and I'm currently in my 1st year of Bachelor of Mass Communication specialising in Public Relations.

If it wasn't for new media, we wouldn't have survived the pandemic. So New Media has definitely made life under lockdown better. Due to the lockdown, everyone was tied at home not having anything to do which was the best opportunity for us to connect with each other through WhatsApp video calls, Facetime and zoom meetings. Hence, thanks to New Media, I’ve gotten closer to my distant family and friends.

Although, I would love to go back to the way things were before, it wouldn’t make up for the time and opportunities we have lost due to the lockdown. So, I feel New Media has changed our lives for better and we all have already adapted to this change and it wouldn’t be possible for us to go back to things like before. There are now more opportunities, easier communication, easier and convenient lifestyle through the New Media as more people have now understood it better and are using it to expand their knowledge, business, experience and so on.

I like how New Media has made things convenient for everyone to work accordingly such as Work from Home or Online Classes which mostly increase productivity and flexibility for people to work especially for those who are back in their own country and are not able to travel due to immigration matters.

What I do not like about New Media is how it has made us lazier and too comfortable in our space.

Due to the lockdown, we are now used to getting everything delivered to our doorstep be it clothes, food, grocery or paying our bills online, which has just made us lazy and too dependent digitally.

Hence, we have gotten too comfortable in our homes which just leads us not wanting to go out and just stay at home scrolling endlessly on our phones neglecting the work that has to be done.

Thank you for reading :)

Hi everyone, my name is Xi Wen and I’m a Digital Media Production student.

During the pandemic, New Media has bring positive impacts to my life. New media helps me on exploring the diversity of the world in every aspects which also helps me on having a better relationship with myself and the world. For instance, I gained more knowledge on psychology aspects which provides an opportunity for me to know myself better and helps my self-development. For another example, I watched different types of film including animations, short film and others which helps me to understand more about different culture and perspectives from different characters that I previously have low chances to met with.

I appreciate that New Media has brings lots of conveniences and benefits to us including enable me to gain more knowledges from different channels which saves my resources such as time. However, I would prefer go back to before the pandemic on communication. Even though New Media provides platform and channels for me to communicate and interact with my familiar ones during pandemic despite I’m having a long distance relationship with them, I would prefer face-to-face method. In my opinion, face-to-face method would enable a person to fully express their feelings and emotions through the tone of voice, body language and facial expressions.

New Media allows me to solve my problems on meals conveniently by choose meals, order, and finish the payment through online, and receive the food from delivery man. This saves my time, money and energy. However, there’s sometimes when I had to face the hard situations when my network connections went bad which May leads to the cancellation of the order or got interrupted during the process of online transaction.

Hello, my name is Sabrin. I am 20 years old, and I am studying Bachelor of Mass Communication (Pr and Marketing) I’m originally from Eritrea, which is a small East African nation, but I was born and raised in Saudi Arabia.

Personally, new media has played a huge role in my life throughout the pandemic and lockdown. It has helped my family and I stay sane in many ways. For instance, social media platforms like Instagram, WhatsApp, and Facebook have helped me stay in contact with my friends and loved ones. Besides staying connected, the use of new media/streaming platforms like NETFLIX, Amazon PRIME, and TikTok has also played a huge role in my routine during the pandemic since it was the type of media, I consumed the most. And not to mention, my classes were all online at the time and that’s when I was introduced to a platform called Zoom, and I find myself using it to this day even for my personal use.

I can’t say that I would want things to go back to the way that they were because the pandemic has made life easier in terms of the consumption of media and utilizing it in our daily lives. A good example is how new media platforms have helped many small businesses stay afloat during the pandemic, whether it was by marketing their products online or by staying connected with their customers online, using media tools to deliver their products directly to their customers, and much more.

One of my frequently used new media tools are DUOLINGO and Instagram. What I like about DUOLINGO is that it has made learning new languages easier for me. And Instagram is my go-to media platform since it’s where I go to contact my friends from back home and it’s also where I read news from around the world.
