I choose a news from The Star, 5 October. There are two news column. Both of news are horizontal story design and same text shape which is rectangles but there are difference text block. The top one is U-shaped text block and the bottom one is L-shaped text block. The photo in the bottom one is one horizontal photo and there are caption at the bottom of the picture. The top one there are one small horizontal photo and two vertical photo and have one dominant photo. The headline is about blood donors for helping Vegas survivors so the dominant photo is the woman who donates her blood. There are no mugshot. That's all from me.

In my opinion, based on the image I have selected, this is a horizontal story design which the story is shorter than vertical story design. The headline of this story is used the main headline which is to attract the readers and kicker style to give additional information. As I know, the kicker is an overline and set above the main headline. This headline is set in small points and its purpose is to supplement the main headline. The stories consist of 5 columns. There also have a byline, dateline and quotation in the story. Then, the photo shapes is used a vertical shape which there are two vertical shapes of photos followed by the cutlines below of each photos to show the readers who were involved in this story. The mugshot there used the mug cutlines of their names in a horizontal story design which between the headline and text.

5th October 2017, Utusan Malaysia, "Selamat Dimakamkan"

I have chose a news entitled "Selamat Dimakamkan" from Utusan Malaysia, dated 5th October 2017. This content of the news told the readers about Raja Puan Besar Perak, Raja Nor Mahani Raja Shahar Shah, consort of the Raja Muda Perak, was safely interred at the Royal Mausoleum in Bukit Chandan. 

The story designs of this news consists of headline, kicker, byline, dateline, text, image and cutline. The headline is written in large, bold font and also in a simple word to attract the readers' attention. The image and the text shapes of this news is in horizontal shape. There is also a kicker which highlighted the total of people who accompanied the remains of Almarhum Raja Nor Mahani. The shape of text also in horizontal shape and in a short which helps to please the eyes of the readers and to attract their attention to read the story. Moreover, it also creates some illusion that the story are short to read.

From my viewpoint, the way this news presented are interesting, simple and adhered to the rules of designing the story despite the writer wrote too much name of accompanies of the remain, which will reduce a little bit interest to read the news. In my opinion, the format that have been used for the picture is the horizontal story design which has full size of picture and there are shorter than vertical story design. There are using basic headline which consist 4 column which is simple, clear and attractive to readers. Besides, the stories is about education and it very good for student. There also have byline, dateline, and quotation in the story. It also follow the newspaper fundamental rules which have the byline, dateline, lead, quote, attribution, headline and photo. The story using one vertical photo design which focus on the main subject of the story. In my opinion, the photo should be put under the main headline so that the headline will describe the photo clearly and show the shape text block to look more neat and orderly so that the readers can easily read it.

Some people attend to look at pictures and that will make them to read out what the story is about. But , the picture also use side by side picture that the picture will compete one to another. Besides, it use too much photos and it more than three photos. My suggestion is to reduce the amount of photo. Three is enough but five is too much. It should focus on story more. It also implements the basic element of the newspaper such as headlines, text, photo and cutline.

Moreover, it uses main headline as a basic headline style that written in larger bolder text to attract the readers' attention which summarize the story contents. While, in the text design it’s implement the normal leading 12pt type, 14pt leading in writing which greatly affect the readability of the text content. The horizontal story design that use in this article pleasing to the eyes create the illusion that the stories are shorter.

In photo designing, it includes the one vertical photo as it's style which is suitable with the story text since it placed on the left side of the photos that will describe the photo's beside thoroughly. Lastly, the main headlines placed on the top of photo and story text create a short and simple article which easier the readers to read.

The photos used in the story mostly in horizontal style and one of them is in a vertical style. Other than that, there were 2 direct quotes used in the story.

There is also a hammer that is written below the headline. The designer also put byline above the hammer. For the text, it had three columns and it is in L shaped text block. In this story, the designer put two images in it which are two horizontal photos. One of it is a dominant photo which is bigger than the competing photo in one story. A strong photo will anchor the story. Below the photos also has a cutline, so the readers can get a hint. Overall, I am attracted to read the story for the moment I saw the headline. It made me wanted to know the story deeper. Lastly, I loved how they put an additional info at the end of the story. The readers can get some information about it.

The story design that used for the uploaded photo was tabloid.The headline that wrote was bold and not narrow attract us to read.Moreover,the title was catchy to attract people to read. Headline and text move along the page either vertically or horizontally. 
Plus, the  the shape for this story good and shapes rectangle and wrote neatly.Because of tiring eye to the reader with vertical story,this newspaper used as limit news as they can.So that,they can finished read as soon as possible.
 
The photo in the newspaper was styled with horizontal photo.The single photo was enough to tell what kind of story to tell the reader.Plus,it also flow story strongly in one direction.

Based on my view from Kosmo. The headline catches on reader’s eyes. Written in larger bolder text to attract the reader’s attention. The reporter puts on kicker to supplement the main headline. There are 4 legs or columns in the text which are contains of by line, dateline, lead, quote. This news used horizontal story shorter. The format that used by the designer in photo is square style brings impact to the news and the cutline below it is just nice and not extend beyond the edge of the photo. The image also mugshot, their image are usually run the full of width for the column. I think overall for this news is good and can attract reader to read it.

Based on my view about the elements that have been use at this news, it is using the main headline which is written in larger bolder text to attract the readers’ attention. The newspaper is using 2 horizontal photo and this is the dominant photo. The design use 4 columns with horizontal story design which can create the illusion that stories are shorter. Furthermore, the story design is in L-Shaped text block. They also have a quote and sources about the news. The cutline is located below the photo. It consists the dateline which explain where the place happen. The newspaper also used mugshot with the names as the mug cutline. This news include by-line which can give the credit to the writer. In my opinion, I think this news is easy to understand.

I choose a page design from New Straits Times . This newspaper considered as tabloid newspaper which consist of 5 column grids, which is half the size of broadsheet. A grid is made up of horizontal lines,its shape the content into proportions and pleasing to the eyes. It has a dominant photo which can attract reader. This newspaper using the modular page design and it as discrete rectangular units. It look neatly arranged. This page has potrayed as a page with art. The page also applied the rule of thumb. The design in this page contain one-third art. I think , this page had a good page design and it can easily the reader to read it.

The designer comes out with one big hot issue in front the page. They used big dominant picture with headline to attract the reader to read the hot news. The colour of the front page also quite simple and not too heavy to the reader. The selection of the colour also based on the story what they come out. They also put one hot issue in the column besides the teaser.
