Oil on canvas / The artist uses dark colous to show the tiredness of the old man and the young boy doing pointless backbreaking labour
4. Courbet felt that it wasn't fair that the poor have to do hard labour while there were more morden and easier tools to use like powerful jackhammers and bulldozers
5. This painting shows realism and reality that there is injustice in the frence country. That being poor should stay poor and the rich should stay rich.

1. The Stone Breakers by Gustave Courbet in 1849
2. Two men. One old and one young breaking rocks for a living. The rocks are used to make roads. The younger one is described as really young and the other really old and shows how age didnt matter at that time as people slaved to make ends meet.
3. Oil on canvas. The painting has a darker motif and is showcased by the artist by using muted and dull colours such as black. The artist also painted the men with ripped and worn clothing to show the poverty that the men are facing. Widely criticised and hated by the "perfectionist" Salon who prefered a "flawless" painting.
4. This painting is actually based on a true story. Courbet was walking home when he saw the men working by the side of the road. Courbet then used them as subjects in his painting. Courbet sought to portray the realness of the situation in his painting.
5. Social Realism. Men started seeking answers and wanted realness in paintings and art. Twas a new era of art was started. Everything was real, everything was viewed in a new light and the standards for "perfect" was ignored. Artists became raw with their paintings.

1. ''The Stone Breakers'' (in French called Les Casseurs de pierres) painted by a French painter; Gustave Courbet in year 1849.
2. Two men labors were choosen as the subject matter, one is young and the other is quite older, both them endeavorly breaking and removing stones from a being-built road. neither of them forwardly faced in the painting.
3. Technically, he used oil paintings on a piece of normal canvas. He warily balances the bright and dark colours to tone equally and form a glorious piece of art and obtained some powerful messages. Also, rather than the two subjects, he painted the background (in this case i prefer the soils and the stones) climatically to strongly illustrate the scabby and pathetic life of most middle-class people at that time.
4. Courbet depicted the unfortunate truth about how poor people survived through their days, years and maybe most of their lifetime been treated like they deserved to be such harshness labor.
5. By this painting, he produced a realism artwork. True, it happened to be a controversial painting because the wealthy class folks felt offensive with the stated objective, they even destroyed the masterpiece. But then, recreated and still to be used as a historical piece by many generations.

The subject matter is two men, old and young, breaking rocks used to pave roads. The artist is trying to potray the hardwork of the poor during that time where they had to do burdensome and herculean jobs to feed themselves as well as their families. The pay wasn't much so even the elder and the young have to work side by side to increase the family's income as much they possibly could.

3. Rough brushwork - "his refusal on focusing on parts of the image that would usually receive most attention,"

4.
