Overall, it was a successful attempt and I learnt how to make the quiche crust using flour, water and butter. What is another alternative for the filling of the quiche?
My partner and I opted for the mushroom and spinach filling but I also got to try the quiche with tuna filling that some of my friends made and it was equally tasty. I also added some fruits to the dish. The manipulative skill was the rubbing in method to make short crust pastry.
I was able to manage my time quite well and was able to finish under 1h. One initial difficulty that I faced was deciding what dish I wanted to make and what ingredients should go into my dish. I eventually decided to make a quiche, because of the high manipulative skill and I decided to replace canned tuna with fresh shredded chicken as it is lower in preservatives and thus healthier. I would have improved in terms of plating. The nutritional tools helped me to understand the different food types better and allowed me to explore the different ingredients that had different nutritional values.
How manageable were the manipulative skills for you?
They were manageable as I was able to re-create the dishes that required the manipulative skills quite well.
How purposeful were the investigative activities in helping you come up with your final creation?
The activities were able to tell me more about the different food groups and food items. They provided me with useful information like the pros and cons of the different ingredients and allowed me to come to a decision, as to what I wanted to make, faster.
