I chose this student because I believe she would benefit from being placed on an IEP to receive the additional support she needs. Her teacher shares this concern, and we have already spoken with her mother about it. Academically, she is a great student, but she occasionally talks back to her teacher. When I offer to help her, she often declines, saying, "No, thank you." I am currently working on finding ways to connect with her by learning more about her interests, hoping that building rapport will encourage her to accept my support.

The reason I chose this student is due to his academic needs and misbehavior in a classroom setting. I feel being on an IEP would be very beneficial for this student to get the one on one instruction he needs in order to be successful in his education. Some examples of his academic struggles is in the area of word recognition. His last site words test he got 17 words out of 150. Compared to his first testing on site words he got 5 words correct out of 150. These are second grade level site words to be precise. There is improvement and small successes for this student but I still believe he would benefit from being on an IEP. Touching on his behavior issues, I believe it stems from his academic skills and frustration when he doesn't understand the content.

I chose this student because I think this student has great potential to thrive academically, socially, and emotionally with an assessment and professionally thought out plan. This student is a joy to be around when his behavior or emotions do not disrupt the flow of the classroom or disrupt his own learning. He is very sweet, thoughtful, extremely creative, and determined. He has qualities that can be put to use with some strategic techniques that I don't know about, and that my mentor teacher doesn't know about. My teacher and I talk about him everyday in positive ways, but we are sometimes lost about what we should do for his behavior and his emotional and social level. I think he would really benefit from a plan of some sort. I have connected with this student a lot through art, as we both like to draw and make art. I want to use this to help him, but with our current routines and his current practices, I am not sure how to.

I have chosen a student with an IEP. S2 does not have a behavior issue, but S2’s reading and math skills are low. S2 is in the Dual Immersion program 50% instruction in Spanish and 50% instruction in English. S2 is struggling in English as well as in Spanish in all academic areas. S2 is receiving RSP services on phonics at this point. On a survey that I implemented, S2 stated that S2 would like to learn to read. S2 pays attention to learning to read but read to learn will have to be implemented as well. S2 is aware of their lack of knowledge, but S2 works hard to accomplish in-class work and assignments. S2 has not surrendered and I strongly believe he will overcome these hurdles, but it will take a lot of work on S2 part.

The student I chose has come along way from the beginning of the school year. I am in a TK classroom and this student did not like to share any toys, pay attention, or learn. When we asked him to come to a teacher center, he would tell us no. We had a hard time getting him to do work. He does not like to sit at the carpet to learn. He has good days where he listens and obeys and he sits in his spot on the big carpet but there are also bad days. We have been trying to get him to write his name, learn the alphabet and the sounds. I think my mentor teacher and I can come up with a plan to get him to learn in a way that works for him and the teacher(s).

I chose the student I did because I know that she is capable of so much if she gets the support she needs. She is a student who will listen and be engaged if she is interested in the topic and understands just a bit of it. It is more of a behavioral and emotional support. If she receives support for her to learn how to control her emotions, she will improve academically. There are days in which she will not talk to one, and will not try to do her homework. I know that she is capable and has so much potential.

I chose the student I did because he lacks motivation when it comes to school. The student I chose should have a one-on-one aide, but the school is struggling to find someone for the position. This student does get pulled for RSP time, but I think this student would benefit so much more if they had a one-on-one aide. This student needs constant reminders to stay on task and will only do their work if they have someone sitting right next to them to help. When this student is given one on one support, they tend to do well and get their work completed. This student is also constantly falling asleep in class showing they are not interested in whats going on.

However, she struggles with pronouncing certain words in English. This sometimes makes her shy about speaking in class. She also copies other students' work instead of trying on her own. I want to help her feel more confident in speaking and learning. By focusing on her, I hope to support her speech development and encourage her to work more independently.

As an observant in this classroom, there is a particular student who presents an abnormal behavior compared to the rest of the classroom. According to my mentor teacher, this student does not have an IEP and performs exceptionally well academically, demonstrating strong learning skills. However, I have observed that this student frequently seek attention from others, often through his actions and occasionally with words. ( ex; singing during class, telling random riddles, and other actions where the student attempts to be the center of attention. )

One of the most noticeable behavior is his tendency to leave his designated seat and move around the classroom. At times, it seems like the student have a strong need for physical movement, making it difficult to remain seated for long periods. While the student's engagement in learning is evident, his attention-seeking behavior can sometimes be disruptive.

Because this student thrives academically but struggles with self-regulation in terms of movement and attention-seeking, I believe he might benefit from additional support or strategies to help them stay engaged without causing disruptions. It’s something I am continuing to observe and consider when thinking about how to best support this student's learning and social interactions in the classroom if recommended by my mentor teacher.

The student I chose doesnt have any behavior issues, but is academically low in math and reading. She started off the school year at a Pre K reading level when she is a second grader. In math she often needs one on one intervention, to grasp on the math concepts. I have also noticed that she needs more simple directions in class because if not she will get confused. My student doesnt have an IEP but will soon have a meeting to see if she will need one. She is a very motivated student but often needs additional support from her peers or teachers to complete tasks.

I chose my student because he struggles with behavior issues. He blurts out a lot and has to have his desk separated from others (right next to my mentor's desk) because he distracts others. He also does not do any of his work. The only way we can get him to do some of his work is if we sit next to him and guide him through it. He struggles the most in reading and writing.

I chose this student because he is one of my kids that my mentor and I feel should be on some sort of IEP, but isn't. He is a student who is constantly off task or easily distracted. I feel like he also has other learning difficulties that can get in the way of reaching his full potential, such as having only Spanish speaking family members. I chose my student because he is an English language learner that I work with often in the classroom. I recently took up a position as an intervention teacher, and even though my student is not in my group, I hear him doing well at the other table. He definitely is a fast and eager learner. Over time he has definitely opened himself up to me where he feels comfortable talking more. He does sometimes feel as if his accent is what restricts him from talking to others, but I reassure him that I could understand him quite well.

Having the opportunity to observe and learn how the teacher interacts and communicates with the administration, consular, and RSP teachers in order to help and understand this student more pleasantly is something I am grateful for (being a student teacher). In addition, I will be able to observe the process of him receiving SST and hopefully attending or at least seeing his IEP. I chose this student because I believe they need more individualized support and resources in the classroom to be successful. They are low in math and reading, and have a few behavioral "concerns". They are constantly distracted, off task, and do not complete work if a teacher is not present. When they are in a small group and have 1:1 attention/assistance, they are able to complete their work and can be redirected. I find that these behaviors are not due to them wanting to be noncompliant, but are more so a way of communicating they need other support. These factors have placed them at lower academic standings. They also face behavioral consequences for their lack of attention, work completion, and distracting others in class.

I chose this specific student because he is my lowest student. He is at a reading level 3 and has only passed one of his sight word lists. He sits at his desk and doesn't do any of his work unless my mentor or I am sitting with him giving him one-on-one support. He has to be told multiple times what he should be doing and what he should be working on. He also isn't very talkative, when we ask him something he either stares at us and doesn't say anything or gives us one-word responses. We just had his SST meeting and are waiting to see if he will be assessed or not.

I chose this student because I believe that an IEP would help support this student. Recently he has not been wanting to do work or participate. We have a hard time getting him to focus. Also behavior is a problem so I think that this would also help him. We have clip downs and clip up in our class for behavior. This behavior chart does not work for him. He does not care if he has to clip down. If he clips down three times then it is a parent call home. The other day we told him that we would call home because he didn't want to do his work. This was after repeating several times that he needed to finish his comprehension questions. We had him clip down once because he was just sitting there. We have reached out and asked him if he needs help on his work. After my teacher talked to him, we were able to get him to work at my small table with a few other students. This student does well with one on one help. As soon as he finds the problem hard, he shuts down and doesn't do it. He needs guided help. Also he shuts down and starts crying when he is frustrated. He struggles in math and writing.

In the beginning of the year, I was surprised to learn that this student does not receive any services and he was only on a waitlist for an SST meeting. I have worked with this student in small groups and effort is absolutely not his problem, he is just lacking foundational skills that he needs in order to shine. He tries his best, he focuses and doesn't get distracted easily (which is saying a lot for a sixth grader!). Her aunt has permanent guardianship, her father is deceased, and her mother has been previously incarcerated. She is and English Learner and does receive speech services. She has also received some grief counseling services through the school, but I believe she could benefit from more services, such as Transitions or CSI. The student I chose for this assignment is a student that has kind of been on our radar since the beginning of the school year. We noticed that when she speaks, it sounds almost like she is mumbling, or speaking very quickly without sounding out the last sounds in her words. It is really hard to understand what she is saying. She has made very little progress with her identifying uppercase letters, lowercase letters, numbers, and counting. Even when we work one on one with her, if I ask her a question right after something we reviewed, she won’t understand. I am not sure if it is because she has a short attention span, comprehension, or if it is because she has trouble retaining information. Overall, we have no behavioral problems with her, she is always in good spirits.

I chose a student who I have noticed struggles with focusing, completing work, and following directions. I was surprised to learn that he does not receive any services. At the beginning of the school year, his mother mentioned that he was diagnosed with autism by his doctor, but when the teacher asked her to bring the paperwork to the office, she later stated that she was planning to take him to the doctor to get started on the process. My mentor teacher is currently waiting for those results. This student is very smart and performs slightly above grade level, but he requires a lot of one-on-one support and frequent redirection. There have been days when the student does not complete any work because he struggles to stay focused. Instead of asking for help, he will sometimes write 'coming soon' on his paper when he can't focus. I would like to find strategies to support this student because as he moves to third grade the work load is only going to increase.

I was fortunate enough to be able to stay in the same 3rd grade placement all year. The student I chose was solely chosen for academic purposes. She is not a problem behaviorally. She is very attentive in the classroom setting and engaged in the lesson, despite the work being very challenging for her. Also, she has established good relationships with students in the class and is very respectful. Towards the beginning of the year, my mentor teacher made a referral for this student to be evaluated. The student that I chose is academically two grade levels below in both reading, writing, and math. This student cannot write a complete sentence. On a recent writing performance task, the students were tasked with a narrative writing prompt. The student did not use any capital letters, punctuation, multiple words were misspelled, and student exhibits inability to write logical thought processes. Her writing consisted of incoherent, random thoughts. In math, the student struggles with counting by 2s, 5s, 10s, and does not comprehend place value. She has been receiving SST support since November and we are currently waiting for the preliminary IEP.

I chose my student because I have observed him and noticed that he gets easily distracted and zones out during instructional time. My mentor and I have noticed that he appears to have no motivation to do schoolwork and finds anything to distract him, which affects his ability to complete his classwork and independent assignments. When doing whole class instruction I've noticed that he loses focus easily and tends to stay off task for longs periods of time. Student also has a hard time communicating. Me and my mentor teacher were discussing that an IEP for this student with be a great idea. This student does not have an IEP. In class we give him support one on one and we redirect a lot but I believe this student needs accommodations to support his learning. I believe speech and more support one on one will benefit him. He is still learning how to navigate himself to find which group he's in during centers. He seems to always be lost during recess. He always has a group of girls helping him get in line when it time. He is improving however at a slower rate time from peers. Student does have an IEP, in speech. I have talked with mentor and we both think he speak at home a different language that is not Spanish or English. We have not really been able to speak with mom as much as we would like too. I hope with my observations I will find out more details on how to further support student.

This student comes to class every day and tries her best yet her scores are always the lowest in the class. When we did our testing for math and reading she was very behind the students in our class. When looking at her reading score she is at a first-grade level. We do work with her in small groups and one-on-one but the students still struggle. This student struggles in math and writing. She does try to understand what is being taught and the lesson we are teaching. This student we believe has some processing difficulty which is why she is struggling. The student I chose for this assignment has an IEP for speech, but he could benefit from additional academic support as well. He struggles with staying focused and is one of the students who is academically behind. He can only count up to 9 and recognizes only the numbers 3, 4, 5, and 6, which affects his ability in math, where he is unable to add or subtract. He is also unable to blend CVC words, although he knows most to all of the letter sounds, which affects his reading skills. At the beginning of the year, we started an SST and have documented progress and concerns weekly. He has several interventions, including one-on-one sessions with the mentor teacher and myself, RTI small groups Monday through Thursday for 30 minutes, speech therapy once or twice a week for 30 minutes, Reading Mastery Monday through Friday for 30 minutes a day, and tutoring Monday through Friday for 20 minutes after school. I will continue to work with him daily, but my hope is that we can find a solution or some additional support for this student.

I chose this student because I feel like she's slipping through the cracks, and I want to make sure she gets the support she needs before her struggles become bigger issues. After talking it over with my mentor teacher, we both agreed she would benefit from some extra attention. She’s very quiet and doesn’t ask for help, which means her difficulties often go unnoticed. She also tends to be antisocial and keeps to herself, which makes it harder for her to connect with others or ask for help when she needs it.

She’s having a hard time in both math and ELA, but her biggest challenge is in math. She struggles with basic operations like addition, subtraction, and division. These are fundamental skills that she needs to build on, and without a solid grasp of them, it’s difficult for her to move forward in math. This has been affecting her confidence, and she gets stuck on things that other students might be able to move through more easily.

That being said, I’ve noticed that when she gets more individualized attention, she makes some progress. During one-on-one sessions or when she’s in a small group, she seems more comfortable and is able to understand things better. These smaller settings seem to help her focus and feel less overwhelmed. She’s been more confident in asking questions and working through problems when she’s in a more supportive environment.

The student that I chose academic low, low motivation, and attention span. The student does not have any IEP or 504 Plan, but the student needs constant reminders and helps within given tasks. I know that I can help the students in ELA, Math, Hmong (DI classroom), and motivation with positive reinforcements. In order to help the student, I need to know more about the student's background information and beyond test scores and data. I need to build a positive relationship to let the student know that I am here to support the student academically and SEL. The student is one of the two students that are low in iReady and FSA data. I discussed with the teacher about how the student took the iReady tests as if it was a game, "click, click," without reading the passages, questions and answers. The student is always the last to brainstorm ideas to write and the student could only write three to four words max. Whereas, the other students in the same red group writes more.

The reason my mentor teacher and I picked this student was because it is very difficult to get her to focus on any task for more than two minutes. She is defiant and will refuse to sit on her Dot on the carpet or at her seat. And then sometimes she will sit next to the dot or stand at her seat. When we were testing her, she was supposed to say what letter was on the computer screen. She would say some of them and then start talking about her home life in the middle of the test. I recently learned that her parents disallow her recess until she's caught up on her assignments, and I was shocked to find out that she wasn't. Judging by her behavior in the classroom, I thought she was conscientious, grasped materials quickly, and submitted everything on time, but this wasn't the case. She is easily distracted, easily flustered, get's very frustrated with herself, and it's hard to watch when she is trying so hard. I had some time with her during a small group lesson and I got to see another side. She was frustrated and flustered, but she was also proud once she grasped it. She is definitely capable, just seems easily distracted by the classroom dynamic.

She is also somewhat withdrawn from her classmates. She doesn't seem very interested in forming friendships with them, or perhaps she hasn't been able to because she spends her recesses in the classroom catching up on work. She seems lonely, but benefits from collaboration with her classmates.

We are doing everything that we can do to keep him going and not leave him too behind. However, this is inevitable and almost impossible as he struggles to do anything on his own. The student that I choose was a student who does has serious behavioral issues in the classroom. I feel that sometimes his outbursts don't allow for all the other students to learn. How are we supposed to teach 26 students when 1 student is causing lots of chaos. This student does have moments where they show focus and respect but has a hard time with work completion. He is high in math and low in SLA. Since I am in a bilingual classroom I can see how this student struggles with the language barriers.
