Shopping at the mall is one of the largest time wasters out there. Hundreds of people walk around a huge building with hundreds of stores for hours just to leave empty-handed a lot of the time. This is especially bad because I could be tuning my leadership skills with all of those people, but instead I am just minding my business walking from store to store creating bad leadership habits.

Napping can be one of the best parts of my day, but it is ultimately a time waster. I am literally laying there sleeping for a long period of time when I could be doing something else productive. This affects my leadership because instead of conversing with people and improving my leadership skills, I am sleeping.

Youtube has been the most popular video watching platform for years. Pretty much anything you want to watch whether that is how to build a treehouse, watch a music video from your favorite artist, or just get a quick laugh. This platform is helpful in many ways but has become a time waster for me. It affects my leadership because I am not using it to improve my leadership, but instead to waste time.

Netflix is a monthly subscription platform where you can watch endless movies and tv series ad-free. It becomes very addicting to watch especially the series with multiple seasons because many of the episodes leave on a cliffhanger. It is great for leisure time but is a big time waster and affects my leadership in the way that I am giving my undivided attention to the show and time goes by that I could be practicing my leadership skills.

Tiktok is a video sharing app that is popular around the world. The app allows you to post and view short videos up to one minute long. The app will give you content based on your interests and videos you have liked, saved, or shared. As you can tell, the app can be very addicting and time consuming to endlessly watch video after video. It is the ultimate time waster and affects my leadership in the way that I am wasting time on my phone when I could be practicing my leadership skills.

Laying out a strict schedule to follow hour by hour will keep me occupied and will help me stay on track with what I will need to accomplish that day. This is a strategy that will continue with me for the rest of my life. Practicing this benefits my leadership greatly because it shows others that I am disciplined with my work and I will be leading by example for others!

That way once the time that I have selected for the day is up, I will not be able to use the app for the rest of the day.
#3 Strategy: Supplement Watching Youtube/Netflix for Watching Leadership Videos

My last great strategy for overcoming my time wasters is to supplement watching my normal Youtube/Netflix videos for instead watching videos on how to become a better leader. There are thousands of helpful videos out there from a variety of people from professional athletes to inspirational speakers that share their view on how they effectively use their leadership abilities to impact others. This benefits my leadership a great amount because I will be directly learning about how to be the best leader I could be out in my day to day life.
