Payton- In the story " A Rose For Emily" Miss Emily's father, a protective man, was very protective towards Miss Emily because he held a horse whip while standing behind her. He did this because he was being very protective. A quote to go with this is it said, "Her father a spraddled silhouette in the foreground, his back to her clutching a horsewhip..." (Faulkner 25)

The relationship with the women and men of town are very opposite of each other. The Women are very gossipy towards her and don't respect her and are very suspicious of her. A quote from the short story is "Then some of the ladies began to say that she was a disgrace to the town and had a bad example to the young people"(Faulkner 44). The men of the town on the other hand cared for her respected her all of the above. Quotes from the short story to cite this is "The men through a sort of respectful affection for a fallen monument the women out of curiosity to see the inside of her house"(Faulkner 1)

Miss Emily had many differing relationships with men and women. Alive Miss Emily had been a tradition a duty and a care. In the text it says paragraph 1 "when Miss Emily Grierson died, our whole town went to her funeral " It also states that the women mostly only went so they could see the inside of her house. This shows that the men had a lot of respect for her and all showed up for her funeral however the woman mainly only went to her funeral so they could see her house. She is respected by the men but disliked by the woman.

Miss Emily had been respected when she was born till she died , it was really only by the men though, the women seemed to have a burden against her. Miss Emily got very bad and upset when her father had passed away, she had bought rat poison and the town had assumed she would kill herself and said it would be the best thing. In the story it states paragraph 44 " Then some of the ladies began to say that it was a disgrace to the town and a bad example to young people ". The woman didn't even care they just cared about the towns reputation. It also states in paragraph 25 " So when she got to be thirty and was still single we were not pleased exactly". The woman have a very differing perspective of Miss Emily compared to the men.
