The students recently read Dr Seuss’s “The Cat in the Hat” and enjoyed the book thoroughly. They were also emerging in their ability to listen out for words that sound similar to other words. For example, “With my net, I can get them I bet”, some students were able to note that “net” and “bet” sound similar, and a few were able to recognize that “get” also sounds similar to “net” and “bet”. Students are mostly able to identify individual phonemes, including consonant sounds and short vowel sounds. Thus, to build on their present level of skills and interest, students will work on blending words of the ‘-at’ word families in the present lesson.
