If there is a way around an unethical test, then that way should be used in order to keep society in a healthy condition. A line must be drawn before any physical or psychological damage is caused. If an experiment is done knowing that psychological or physical damage can happen, then it shouldn’t be done in the first place nor should it be considered legitimate.

These three experiments are extremely unethical which do not benefit society. They are inhuman and there is definitely a line that is crossed. No one should be tortured and no child should be touched. Yes we indeed got results we might need in the near future but the human race should not use them against anyone but at the same time it shows that we don't need to experiment on that specific study again because we already know the results. Altogether the experiments were dehumanizing and not right.

Yes there are benefits to doing unethical experiments, because even though the people that suffered during those experiments the results could help thousands more. I do think that there should be a line, if whatever you’re experimenting isn’t worth the lives of the people you’re affecting then you shouldn’t do it. I also believe people shouldn’t be forced to do these experiments and should be given the option to back out at anytime. They should be recognized as legitimate and be used in modern studies, because otherwise those affected would have suffered for nothing.

Unethical experimentation can benefit society, even though certain experiments may be morally wrong. These experimentations can tell us about human behavior and/or diseases. They can give us the results we need, but the actions taken to get these results are not okay. There is a line that should not be crossed when doing experimentation, especially on living things, such as humans. Anything that could harm or cause permanent damage to a living creature should not be tested. Because of this, some things may be left unknown, but it would be better to have it unknown than to risk the life of a human being to find a certain result or cure. Results from unethical experiments should be recognized as legitimate due to the fact that these experiments were done by scientists who believed what they were doing would better humanity and some of the results they found actually contributed to scientific breakthroughs. However, the way they approached these experiments was morally incorrect and should not be used in modern studies.

I feel that unethical experiments will affect society, but not in a beneficial way. Humans cross the line when their want for more information causes them to harm their own in twisted experiments. We experiment on animals and other organisms, but there is no excuse for conducting awful, and painful experiments on someone just to benefit your research. Results from unethical experiments should be illegal and not used in our studies. Everything has a limit, and if we allow these destructive experiments to be used as legitimate information, then we have crossed that line.

The line is drawn from the truth that cannot be changed. If it is a manmade experiment intentionally hurting someone physically or mentally for test results then it crosses the line, regardless of consent. If the experiments are already done then you should be able to use the results, but also realize that we shouldn’t do them again.

Unethical experiments can benefit society. Everything depends on circumstances, mostly the circumstances of the experiment. It also depends why it is unethical. For example, if someone was to run an experiment for educational purposes and with the consent of the participants then I would consider that ethical. If the experiment required unethical treatment, I would consider that okay. The subjects volunteered themselves and knew what the experiment would contain. Also, if the experiment was for information that would enhance the human race then it’s adequate.

For a true unethical experiment to take place then someone would have to be deliberately hurting other people, or even animals, for unnecessary reasons.

There is a line and it’s when the people in control of the experiment are going was past required to hurt the subject.

Unethical studies should not be allowed to be used in modern studies.

All three of the experiments caused people to suffer in one way or another and suffering and pain should always be taken into account when doing experiments. But we should also ask ourselves if the knowledge we gain from the experiments are worth the pain of the subjects. Obviously the experiments done by the Nazis during WW2 are completely barbaric and unethical due to the sheer suffering the patients went through. But the other two experiments produced good results though we should never forget or become desensitized the pain that the subjects experienced. Though we should never replicate experiments that caused as much pain to unconsenting patients as the Nazi experiments, We should try to understand the results of these experiments so that the suffering caused to get the results aren’t in vain.

An unethical experiment can benefit society because while they may by horrible, they show information about human nature that may otherwise not have been known. There is a line that is drawn between an unethical experiment and an ethical experiment. This line is drawn when the experiment starts to hurt people mentally and/or physically. An example of this would be the Prison Experiment. In this experiment the roles were chosen by chance and everyone had signed up to be a part of it. This turned unethical because the prisoners had been mentally abused and some even have mental breakdowns and needed to leave. Results from unethical studies should be recognized as legitimate and be allowed to be used in modern studies because they can be used to know what we shouldn’t do. The unethical experiments show what humans should not do, and help others by showing what to do to prevent the circumstances that were in the experiments.

Although it is very wrong, the people that do these unethical experiments do give results that can be used in modern studies. The holocaust did do a lot of research, just like these experiments. There is a definite line between ethical and unethical though. For example, the experiment where the “teachers” had to do the electric shocks, that wasn’t causing any harm to anyone and was more like a survey so that did not cross the line. But, on the other hand, where the professor did the jail experiment, that definitely crossed the line because that actually put harm on people. I do not support the unethical experiments because they are wrong.

I believe that line is drawn for anything that isn’t conducted on voluntary subjects, doesn’t allow them to escape the experiment, or can result in permanent damage or harm of a person. There should be a line of how unethical an experiment can be because really unethical experiments can lead to people having extreme superiority complexes and they can start to lose any morals or ethical beliefs they used to have, as well as people can be hurt mentally or physical due to the experiments. The results of the experiments should be recognized as legitimate because the studies are about how humans react in certain situations and can be useful for learning more about how the human mind works. I do believe there is a line for benefiting society, but these experiments crossed the line. The line for benefiting our society should be drawn when it’s causing harm to another. Our society shouldn’t be acknowledging harm physically or mentally on anyone. All it is doing is showing how wrong and hurtful our human nature could really be. I don’t believe those type of experiments should be used on anyone in modern studies. But like I said it’s to an extent that experiments to be used.

You shouldn’t be allowed to hurt people physically or mentally. With the prisoners and guards that should’ve been stopped because they just got lucky to have power. They went too far. If they are unethical they shouldn’t be allowed to be recognized as a legitimate because it wasn’t right. Scientifically it cannot help or benefit because it was not done right, but it can show us how people can react.

An unethical experiment can very much so benefit society. Yes there should be a line and that should come in when things start getting out of hand. But if you want to get answers to an experiment then you should at least get to the part where it starts to take affect. For example, during the shocking experiment, the higher force kept promising that there was no harm done and manipulating the person's brain into thinking they are ok. That just goes to show the human nature of things and how a person can easily be tricked into doing something. Results from unethical experiments should be recognized as legitimate because it’s positive results that give out facts.

Yes, I believe unethical experiments can benefit society greatly. There is a line where you don’t cross, though that line is mostly a personal determination. For me that line comes mostly with children and innocent people, if someone is say condemned to death then there’s no reason we shouldn’t get information out of it. I believe that the results should be recognized as even if they’re considered done in harmful ways the results are still legitimate results and can be used for benefit. However if a study, ethical or not, is carried out poorly, as in the results have been tampered with or the experiment wasn’t seen all the way through, then it should not be considered legitimate.

In a way yes, because they can teach society not to repeat these actions because they have figured out that they are unethical. This also helps because it helps to prevent history from repeating itself, and to be aware for such things.

I think that unethical experiments can benefit the scientific part of society and perhaps help improve human health and anatomy. For example, the experimentation with people about sea water and twins sounds appealing to scientists to help find cures to a lot of various illnesses that occur among populations today. However, I also think that there should be a line drawn as to how extreme the experiments should be carried out. For example, ripping apart twins without anesthesia and their consent is plain torture.

These people did not volunteer for the test and having to find results through the suffering of others kills the purpose of the whole research. Thus, I don’t think that these results should be considered legitimate, because they came from people who have been put through severe circumstances, which most of the population don’t experience. Furthermore, these unethical studies should not be allowed in modern research, because that just encourages more tortureful experiments and the creation of an insecure society. Overall, experimentation can be carried out but it shouldn’t involve the total suffering of others.

Link to My Work: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1O_5mIUdmuNfiTCmLyzCLHFfEKrSiBlfqStR6I6a-mjs/edit
Sorry!

I think that even though we don’t like it, the twisted experiments conducted during WWII have benefited our knowledge of the limits of the human body, and have in turn benefited society. I’m not defending what scientist like Mengel did, there is line to cross to go from ethical to out right horrendous (like these experiments), but I think we shouldn’t let the lives of so many go in vain, we should use that data to help make our lives safer, and we could use the information to save lives more live than were taken. I don’t think just because we don’t like these experiments, that we should write them off because they makes us feel depressed. If it uses the scientific method and can be peer reviewed, it’s science by definition. Now, do I think we should peer review these experiments or perform experiments like these today? Absolutely not. I do believe we should test the full limits of the human body, but only on people that give their consent, are paid for their time, and have the ability to walk away unharmed in the long term. If they do that, then they’re most likely ethical. I don’t know, it depends on the circumstances.

Link: https://docs.google.com/a/students.mgsd.k12.nc.us/document/d/1dUpmR9nwNGSYXTePdYeQ-oiGmK53EPlJK7wOwwMEtPE/edit?usp=sharing
Sorry, it wouldn't upload

I believe they were trying to find out more about diseases and human nature, however people did not volunteer for the experiments and making them suffer to the point of death wasn’t right. You also have to think about the people in charge didn’t know what they were doing was wrong. They thought about doing experiments for a greater scientific benefit. All they saw of the jews were experiments and recruits, they didn’t think of the jews as humans, and they let their power over rule themselves. In modern studies people do see a line, and they do not go over it. I don’t believe it should not be used in modern studies, if it's “morally incorrect” what’s the point of doing them now. We do numerous experiments everyday, but they are beneficial.

The pdf wasn't working

Unethical experimentation can benefit society because it can bring forth answers to questions and problems that weren’t previously known. And, the results from these experiments should be seen as legitimate as they were actual studies and provided concrete answers regarding human behavior and physiology, they should not, however, be permitted to occur again and they shouldn’t be repeated.

Regarding the scientists who did these things, they were either unaware of what they were doing was wrong, they were scared of refusing to do the experiments, or they just enjoyed. If it is the final one, then they’re just scummy people. However, if it’s the former and the latter, then they were unaware that they were committing atrocious experiments and they just saw Jews, who weren’t respected and were seen as sub humans by some people. They thought they were doing experiments for the greater good of humanity and scientific knowledge. Also, if they knew what the Nazis had been doing, then they’d be terrified of not doing these experiments for them and feared what would happen to them if they didn’t. Luckily, today, there are lines established and experiments like these, probably, won’t occur again.

Here's a link to the Google Document: http://tinyurl.com/y8vvwyfp

Here's a PDF version of the document:
