They are running hard over the hill with their heads down, forearms working, and their breathing hard. When the boys saw Gabilan they admired it and showed much respect towards Jody. Jody was always known as the cowardly kid, but after this moment, he saw a whole new world open up to him. Jody now felt pride and self confidence, a feeling that he did not get very often. Jody then gave a lot of information about Gabilan to his schoolmates.

Jody (Bobby): He aint old enough yet.  No one can ride him for awhile.  I am going to train him on the long halter.  Billy Buck will show me how.
Alfonzo (Phoebe): We can’t even lead him around?
Jody (Bobby): Nope, he isn’t halter broke. Come and see the saddle. It isn’t much use in the brush. It’ll look pretty on him though. Maybe i’ll ride bareback when I go into the brush.
Alfonzo (Phoebe): How you going to rope a cow without a saddle horn?
Jody (Bobby): Maybe i’ll get another saddle for every day. My father might want me to help him with the stock.
Estebon (Gabriella): What is his name
Jody (Bobby): His name is Gabalin
They had to go after a little while, each boy, in his mind, searched among the possessions for a bribe worthy of offering in return to ride on the red pony when time should come. Jody was glad when they had gone. He took brush and currycomb from the wall, took the barrier off the box stall and stepped cautiously in.
