In our video, we focused on natural disasters. In Japan, there are many disasters every year but now the risk of COVID-19 spreading at evacuation places has increased and victims of disasters are struggling to survive. People should evacuate but an emergency evacuation is quite stressful There is a disparity in thinking. Also, lack of volunteers is a problem. Now we can’t go to other prefectures because of COVID-19, so how can we support the place which has a disaster? The government recommends dispersed evacuation but people who evacuate from their homes can not get enough supplies.

We recommend three solutions for each problem.

We focused on climate change and natural disasters related to COVID-19.

Climate changes have robbed animal habitats. Because of this, animals have had to migrate to where humans live. Human infections are related to the movement of these animals.

When natural disasters happen, people can go to evacuation places, but some people cannot enter there because of overcrowding. The government recommends people evacuate to hotels or homes of friends or relatives. Evacuation places have some measures to prevent infection, however it isn’t enough

In the future, we may face more serious situations caused by environmental problems. If a natural disaster happens during a pandemic, evacuation shelters will have some problems with keeping social distance.

The solution is for evacuees to prepare disinfectants, soaps, and masks before evacuating. Because shelters enforce social distance, the government should increase the number of shelters in each prefecture.

During natural disasters caused by climate change, the spread of infection can be prevented. It is people who should prevent the deterioration of climate change.

Our focus is on environmental problems related to COVID-19.

Trade is limited and there is not access to enough food due to Covid-19. It has already affected the amount of food for next year. Another topic is plastic. Plastics are essential to prevent Covid-19 infection, so these are used in lots of products. Then, plastic waste from home has increased. What do you think about that? It is important for us to reduce plastic waste from home. On the other hand, as a positive effect of Covid-19, air pollution has decreased in some countries. In addition, we should use sustainable energy like bicycles in daily life. The final topic is a problem that Japan has. There are a lot of natural disasters in Japan. Under the COVID-19 situation, there are a number of problems related to evacuation shelters. What impacts does COVID-19 affect evacuating? Some of the impacts affecting evacuation during the pandemic are that people don’t want to evacuate to shelters because of the possibility to get the COVID-19. Please enjoy our presentation!!

In this video, we explain the problem at evacuation shelters caused by the COVID-19 pandemic. Typhoons, hurricanes, and fires…. Even though we are in the middle of the outbreak, these environmental disasters, which might force us to evacuate to shelters, can occur. There is, however, also a high possibility of getting infected with COVID-19 in these shelters. Besides, the requirements of social distancing allow evacuation shelters to accept fewer people than usual. Considering these problems, we suggest the “dispersed evacuation” as a new style of evacuating. We hope everyone who watches our video will enjoy it and observe new things.

Over the past years, the unprecedented growth and prosperity of the Philippines was accompanied by the alarming increase of plastic-intensive consumer goods, with Filipinos disposing more than 163 million plastic sachets daily. Only 22 percent of the total cities and municipalities of the Philippines could be accommodated by sanitary landfills. Furthermore, up to 74% of the country's "collected" plastic waste end up polluting coastal areas and threatening marine life.

As such, even prior to the COVID-19 outbreak, the Philippines was already drowning in plastic, what more now that single-plastic usage is critical in containing the spread of the virus all the while allowing the operations of the society to continue.

Hong Kong has always been combating with air pollution, which was mainly caused by local sources, vehicle traffic and power plants. And because we’re in a pandemic now, more environmental issues such as mask pollution is happening. However, the government has been working on solutions, in the meantime, we can help too as individuals too, by limiting our vehicle use and support our local charities. Our movie deals with how covid 19 was able to bring nature back to life: the smoke-filled skyline is irradiated by double rainbows, street noise replaced by melodies of animal sounds and so many more signs of nature reclaiming its territories. We also discuss our country, India’s, and our school, Amity’s, constant efforts to keep everyone’s spirits high during these tough times.
The coronavirus will for sure leave scars but more importantly, these scars will indicate how strongly we fought this pandemic. It's on us how we perceive these changes and what lessons we take forward for ourselves and our future generations.
And we are sure, together we’ll make contributions and find effective solutions
-Ananya Agarwal and Ishika Kaushik , Amity International School, India
