What kinds of guidance, support and training do you feel you need to become comfortable and capable in areas of working with families?

As a new teacher, I would definitely need as much guidance as possible. I am currently a pre-toddler teacher at a child care center. I did not receive proper training and was thrown in. Mentorship is very important because learning from someone with lots of experience can teach you so much. According to Wolpert-Gawron (2018), "Mentors aren’t just friends—they are more than that. They are amazing practitioners who pass on their knowledge through informal conversation and everyday modeling." I would like to be trained on different teaching style approaches for different learning styles. I'd like guidance on how to make my classroom as inclusive for all families as possible. I think it'd be great to learn how to involve the students families in different ways. It would be great to meet my mentor's student's parent's and see firsthand how they interact.

What could you ask for from a supervisor?

There are many things I could ask for from the supervisor. First I would ask them the expectations they have not only for me, but for all the teachers in the facility. I'd also ask them to show me around the school and what tools I can utilize for my teaching. "The supervisor ensures that faculty members new to the school receive orientation and support sufficient for them to work effectively and with confidence that they are carrying out the educational mission, policies, and procedures of the school." (Principles of Good Practice - Teachers and Supervisors of Teachers, n.d.) I would expect for my supervisor to set me up for success and to ensure I am getting the help I need. I'd ask them for any tips they have for new teachers. I believe there's no such thing as too many questions. Knowledge is power.
