- Men grew their hair longer & had dreadlocks, they wore wollen caps and used marijuana, listened to reggae music.
Punks:
- Origin: Punk rock music in the 1950s.
- Included music, ideologies, fashion, visual art, dance, literature and film
- They dressed with the intention to shock, their hair was dyed in bright colours

They describe youth subculture to be symbolic/ritualistic attempts too resist the power of the bourgeoise by adopting a behaviour that is threatening.
-Another example of a theorist is Stan Cohen. He argues youth subcultures are not coherent social groupings that arise spontaneously as a reaction to social forces, but that mass media labelling results in the creation of youth subcultures by imposing an ideological framework in which people can locate their behaviour.in his book, Subculture: The Meaning of Style, Dick Hebdige describes subcultures as a reaction of subordinated groups that challenge the hegemony of the dominant culture.^[7] This theory accounts for factors such as gender, ethnicity and age. Youth can be seen as a subordinate group in relation to the dominant, adult society.
