Born into a wealthy mid west family, educated at Oxford which was a family tradition, after touring Europe he served in the military
- in the military he tried very hard to die but ended up living an enchanted life
- he is pulled over for speeding but is pardoned and let go after showing a card from the police because he had done a favour for the Comissioner

Gatsby gets pulled over for speeding but is let go for his special past as he did a favour for the commissioner.

Nick meets mayor wolfshiem who is a gambler and is Gatsby’s link to organised crime. Another reference to his dodgy past.

Nick talks to Jordan and tells him how in 1917 Daisy received an unknown admirer by the name of Jay Gatsby.
