“What’s the going price for a stay-in-the-kitchen wife with big boobs and no demands?“ This is a satirical remark from the Step Ford Wives that showcases women’s frustration with the stereotypical ideals and roles of the housewife.

“What’s wrong with Bill McCormick? Can’t he run a washer? I thought he was one of our aerospace brains.” “He’s taking care of Marge,” Kit said, folding the T-shirt. “These things came out nice and white, didn’t they?” She put the folded T-shirt into the laundry basket, smiling. Like an actress in a commercial. That’s what she was, Joanna felt suddenly. That’s what they all were, all the Stepford wives: actresses in commercials, pleased with detergents and floor wax, with cleansers, shampoos, and deodorants. Pretty actresses, big in the bosom but small in the talent, playing suburban housewives unconvincingly, too nicey-nice to be real.” This quote aligns with my previous statement of women finally coming to realization of the systematic oppressive nature of marriage. They are beginning to realize that the roles are one sided and seem to cater more so to men.

“Today the combat takes a different shape; instead of wishing to put man in a prison, woman endeavors to escape from one”. This quote symbolizes the wave of female liberation. It perfectly describes what feminism and female empowerment aims to achieve, the end of patriarchal and sexist social structures. Women no longer wish to fit in one category of housewives we have goals, dreams and achievements outside of taking care of the home

“She no longer seeks to drag him into the realms of immanence but to emerge, herself, into the light of transcendence.” This quote represents the terms of female liberation. We no longer wish to play the role of the maid. There are more to women then house work.

“Now the attitude of the males creates a new conflict, it is with a bad grace that the man lets her go.” This is to say we aren’t saying we want to abolish marriage as a whole but to abolish the one sided social constructs that restrict women from progressing in life as an individual. We want the love and stability of marriage but we do not and will not be confined to it. If you will not accept change for the better than you should just let her go.
