According to my mother, throughout my early childhood at four, I consistently expressed a strong desire to watch a particular television program only to see the character Elmo. During my viewing experience, I acquired knowledge of several vocabulary terms that I subsequently incorporated into my language use. That was what my mother told me. I don't really remember.

During that particular period, I realized that I had acquired the ability to engage in independent reading, which I attribute to the guidance and instruction provided by my teacher in the third grade. This book was quite engaging and enjoyable in my reading experience.

During my time in high school, the standard of literary education was more advanced. It is worth noting that my teachers preferred using the literary works of Gabriel Garcia Marquez. One of the literary works that profoundly impacted my personal development is the novel "Cien años de Soledad." This particular piece of fiction stands out due to its sad narrative, which effectively captivates the reader and instills a sense of curiosity, compelling them to engage with the text to uncover the subsequent events persistently.

The novel "Crónica de Una Muerte Anunciada," which I also read in high school, significantly impacted my time there. As a result of the instructor's demand that I provide a comprehensive analysis of the novel's historical development, I realized I was not too fond of literature. I believed it to be extraordinarily complex, necessitating meticulous consideration of numerous aspects since the story is a mystery and suspense. By the end of the academic year, however, I can perceive both the book's theme and the teacher's request. After completing our study of the book, we adapted the story's events into a dramatic performance.

I attended college for two years, and during that time, I was only required to read articles on a variety of topics, with an emphasis on grammar and how to improve our writing. I do not recall the themes very well because I did not enjoy any of them. Also, I disliked that class and viewed reading as a form of punishment.

Upon my arrival, I was a young adult of 23 years, embarking on the journey of acquiring a foreign language from scratch, akin to a child's initiation into linguistic acquisition. One of the first literary works I autonomously perused during my time here was a bilingual book in Spanish and English, bestowed to my daughter at her educational institution. The book "With My Brother" by Eileen Roe was my first introduction to the language, enabling me to acquire a rudimentary understanding.

This newfound interest was influenced mainly by a specific literary work that significantly broadened my understanding of black people's historical and ongoing experiences.
