Within one of the activities I would add leveraging Animal Health companies who are leaders in infectious disease testing and treatment in specific communities. They already collect disease surveillance data and have educational materials and clinical studies ready to share this data. Huge common goal.

The co-location of the term disease surveillance and rapid response in this objectives may make it too broad an umbrella. May consider separating the two terms disease surveillance and response. Disease surveillance is also such a broad activities that it would need to be further broken down more specifically to define what VWB's role in it (e.g. working with veterinary services, CAHWS)

I do not believe we have the resources to be the 'lead AH organization'. I almost said eliminate, but it's important. I suggest we modify to say ' a leader, a first responder, a focused AH org for veterinary intervention'? Not sure where we are capable of leading, but we should be more specific. Would also help as we do outreach for funding, so people know exactly what their money is supporting.

There is no formal pan-Canadian animal response entity or structure. Need to consider how VWB can better integrate/advocate for the inclusion of animal disaster response during preparedness and response efforts by governments and agencies

We say to be the lead animal health organization for Canada and globally. On the companion animal side there is a very small amount of responder, yet on the humanitarian side there are many actors, possibly look at a more realistic goal.

VWB's mandate is unique and its possible there is a humanitarian niche we can fill. However, effective humanitarian assistance needs to be quick and agile. This requires an international network and/or good connections on the ground. Many humanitarian orgs have a roster of humanitarian emergency specialists who can be deployed quickly. Does VWB international have this? What are our current arrangements with them for responding to humanitarian crisis?

response mechanisms for humanitarian response is the a global framework- if there is anything in the global response framework that is lacking then we need to be specific about it and it may require a lot of lobbying as well. the ones popular are IFAW, NARSC, WOAH/OIE etc...

Be the lead for animal health organization globally is a very tall order and very ambitious. How are we going to achieve this? Do we need to be the lead?
