Noah is an extremely smart and talented student but all he wants is a normal life and so he tries to flunk out the academy. he has no interest in anything but YouTube, which Donovan told him about. before Donovan there was nothing he wanted to take part in, because all he wanted was to do normal things in a normal life. everything was easy for him anyway!

man vs. self. he can't control his hyperactive trouble-making energy that always gets him sent to the principles office. if he can hit it, push it, or jump on it, he feels like a puppet obligated to do it. Donovan knows he shouldn't be doing these types of things but he still does it every day, a bad habit that brings him so much joy but also trouble. he has to fight against this habit. when he was accidentally sent to the academy, he had to blend in with the goody-goodies and not cause any trouble so he wouldn't be found out. he still failed.

man vs. society. Noah is a very smart 206 IQ kid that hates school. he wants to be normal, but can't because everybody treats him specially just because he got "one little 206 on one little IQ test," everyone goes nuts about him and he got sent to the academy where everything is easy for him. he wants to get expelled from the academy by getting really bad scores, but they still give him A+ because they know his true potential. he hates this

(root) what would happen if Donovan never hit the atlas statue with the stick?

the atlas statue would have broken anyway, but not at that time. it just needed a little pressure to break but if Donovan had left it alone it would have taken a long time to break. aside from that, Donovan would have never got taken to the teacher's office which means that he would't have accidentally been put into the academy (unless he did something else to get in trouble but even if he did the probability that THAT specific teacher would get him in trouble and also accidentally sign him to the gifted program is very unlikely). Chloe would have never had a crush, Noah would't have discovered YouTube (probably), and the academy students would have to take summer school for human growth and development because Donovan's sister would't help children she has no connection to. the academy students would continue their boring lives, with no memory of anybody who came along and made a difference. they would feel like something is missing, maybe? because they are part of a book with a plot and if the start of the plot doesn't exist then their will always be a void that would be missing from their lives? or maybe that's just overthinking it and they would actually just continue their nerdy lives without experiencing anything. also, the "Noah does a WWE move at the valentine dance" would not exist because YouTube would not exist for him.

The academy would have definitely lost. their spirits were already down without Donovan with them, (he was in the stands) and nobody could control tin man better than Donovan. everybody knew that! they would have basically let cold spring harbor cheat (the hand that smacked tin man) and cold spring harbor would have got 1st place and the academy in last. nobody would have got eliminated for acting against the rules, Noah wouldn't have smashed cold spring harbor's robot down with the wrestling chair, and everybody (from the academy) would not be able to think of anything other than "what would have happened if Donovan wasn't kicked out the academy? would we have won?" and honestly, if Donovan didn't get kicked out the robotic competition would be a completely different story. since if he was at the helm from the start, the advantage would be HUGE.
