Please discuss your experience of completing the 20 questions activity through reflecting on the following questions.
Was there a particular rule or rules that caused you difficulty?

What rule(s) did you allocate the most categories to?
What have you learnt from this activity?

I was particularly controversial with rule number 20. As I reflected on the pass reading activities, this rule caused me to wonder if it is an ethically legal rule or moral rule by virtue. Some countries passed laws stating that all individuals have the right to healthcare but health administrators normally functions with their organizations best interest. Even though politicians make laws they cannot force private owned organizations to function in that capacity unless there is an agreement. Is 'the greatest number' referring to people or dollars? We all know that health administrators functions by providing optimal availability of care for their clientele, the question is 'Is this by law or moral?'.

Completing the 20 questions caused me to use the information that i have learnt in both unit 1 and 2. The difficulty came with question 17. Yes all persons have a right to healthcare but is it enforced? What about those homeless persons who die because they could not make it to a healthcare facility. Yes they had a right to it but they could not get to it. I gave the rules one category each with the majority being moral. This activity helped me to further understand ethics.

The twenty-question activity made me question my own beliefs e.g. number 18 states that if someone ask you to keep something secret then you should do this. I selected both moral and legal as the response. My moral obligation to a patient is to be an advocate and a counselor. If, however there are situations when the secret is harmful to my patient, for instance in a domestic abuse situation or neglect and abuse of minors. I will be obligated to keep confidential information and know where to channel such information. But I cannot just not do anything to assist the individual so the secret must be told. Although it goes against my moral judgement there are laws that protects the right of children example keeping children and families safe act of 2003. To conclude it is probably safe to say that secrets can be kept once it does not breach the law.Rule number 20 had much difficulty because I do not believe that health care should always aim to bring about the greatest good for the greatest number, because morally is sounds good but legally it saying that if the condition does not affect a great quantity or is not popular or common to an area then administration don’t need to use resources for that cause. I left this question unanswered because it conflicts my believe that everyone has a right to the care they deserve.

I allocated the most answers to the moral rule as most of the situations are what I perceived to be right or wrong issues.

I have learnt from this activity that moral rule is sometimes affected by legal rule depending on the circumstance of the situation at hand. There are also implications during practice when your moral value conflicts what the law states.

Haven't done so much reading on ethics and morals; personally, morals was allocated mostly followed by the social rule. # 10 reminded me of the principle of fidelity. If a promise is made to the patient for a hot cup of tea verses informing her about her lab results, neither is least important than the other. As it is my obligation to keep my word to the patient. #18 speaks to confidentiality, and fidelity. In doing this activity, it has served as a means of reinforcement of what I have read and it has made it easier to distinguish between moral and social norms.

I applied moral values to most of my question as several of them that were related to moral values were also related to other issues such as legal, religion, universal and social. For question 7, it could be seen from a moral ,legal, social and universal perspective. It is a universal rule that you do not take what does not belong to you unless unless given permission from the owner, it also has to do moral values: what you think is right or wrong, good or bad. It could also be a legal issue, you could be prosecuted for the crime of stealing as well as a cultural issue where person within that culture could be severely punished for carrying out such an act. What i have learned from this activity is that as a nurse, when making decisions regarding patients care and treatment you have to include all the different aspects that could affect the decisions, yours as well as the patient. Moral values, Cultural practices , religious beliefs, what are universally accepted and the legal implications.

I found myself assigning four categories to Question 4. There were so many things to consider. In some cultures, a family member may be expected to end their life and not be a burden on their family. It is also against a healthcare personnel's oath to cause harm or in this case assist in causing harm, which has legal consequences. An individual may not believe it is morally right to assist in such an activity as well, which can also stem from religious beliefs. Taking a life or assisting in ending one seems to be the ultimate action that from both an ethical and a legal standpoint.

I categorized most as "moral rules" guided by the moral/ ethical principles I learned.
Question 20 was a little puzzling and required more consideration and rumination. At a glance, I thought it was a purely moral rule - being carried away by the phrase, " the greatest good for the greatest number." Health administrators do indeed have a moral obligation to promote the well-being of people at a macro-level. That obligation also carries legal connotation for the healthcare administrators, who must ensure the "right to health" for all. Therefore it is both a moral rule and a legal requirement.

This activity has reinforced what I learned about ethics and law.

I understand it is for the greater good but what about those people it will not benefit. I am not sure if I am ready to face this. The rule I allocate the most categories to was moral.

This exercise helped me to reflect on the topics learnt. I was surprised to see university rules incorporated but helps to highlight a key aspect of our learning journey. Moral value or moral judgement where highlighted in the majority of the statements and it shows that our morals are a vital part in our decision making in providing care.

During my activity i encountered some difficult on question 10[ If you make a promise , you must keep it,.] it is ethically moral rule to keep a promise which is trust or confidentiality, It is also a legal rule not to breach someone's confidentiality. But this activity i had a difficulty grouping question 10 as a legal rule because the promise made was not specified , [ What type of promise] i wondered if it has to do with promising someone a gift which has no legal implication, or keeping a personal information, service, or something that should be actually legally secret.

2. Most rules were assigned to Moral Rules.

3. Lesson: Majority of life rules are moral rules.
Many moral rules are also legal and have requirement.
4. there are also social rules as well as Religious rules and others.

Where as in other countries it may be done and the individual committing the act will not be prosecuted.
