I chose Lama Sabachthani by Morris Kestelman. In the painting, I see a group of Jewish people mourning over a pile of dead bodies with burning buildings in the background. The expressions of pain and despair on their faces shocked me because it feels so raw and real. It made me feel deeply sad and helpless, imagining the horror they experienced. I think this artwork represents the overwhelming loss and suffering during the Holocaust, and the feeling of being abandoned in the darkest moments.

I see men throwing and piling people into a large deep pit. I also see starved people, and lots of hungry, upset, mentally broken individuals. What's shocking to me is the amounts of carnage and torture took place during this time period. This makes me feel sick, sad, angry and sympathy for those during this time who had to go through this madness. This image might represent a theme of tragedy, pain, imprisonment and loss.

I see jews crouching and looking up in terror. I think they are looking up at what's supposed to represent the atrocities and what Hitler and Germany are doing to them. What surprised me was the amount of jews and that there were also little kids. This makes me feel uneasy and sad because it's crazy how they were being treated, tortured, and killed.

The sky looks dark and the place feels very sad and a dead country after a war. I'm shocked by the large number of bodies in one place. This picture teaches me that war and cruelty bring great suffering.

I chose Lodz ghetto by Edith Birkin. In the painting I see a desolate street with a bunch presumably Jewish people with hollowed out eyes and all of them look malnutritioned. Their faces display pain and sorrow or just mostly negative emotions. Atmospherically this painting shows a sense of despair and confinement by their oppressors. This picture makes me feel uneasy and uncomfortable because of the faces of the people and how scary they are. This image got me shivering in my boots which was why I chose this image.

What shocked or surprised me is the amount of bodies that were in the ditch because it was such a big amount. It made me feel shocked because I didn't expect the amount that big amount of dead bodies to be put into the ditch. It might represent the death pits they put the corpses in during the Holocaust as the SS guards were dumping them into the pit. Overall, this piece of art is a very important piece of history.

What shocked me was how the people who were alive were living in the same room as the people who were dead. It made me feel sad and disgusted because the way the nazis were treating Jewish people was inhumane. They starved them and killed them only because of their religion which upsets me. This might represent the experiences of Jewish people in concentration camps and what the artist personally saw.

There are soldiers and workers who seem to be placing the bodies into the pit. What shocked me the most is how many bodies are piled together, which shows how large and tragic this event must have been. The dark sky and empty landscape make the scene feel cold and depressing. This image made me feel sad and disturbed because it shows the harsh reality of violence and war. It might represent the suffering caused by hatred and conflict.
