"Bayan Ko, Aking Sigaw"

‎Beneath the sun’s eternal flame, I rise with morning’s vow,

‎My feet kiss soil soaked deep in names of past and present now.

‎Each jeepney roars like ancient drums (simile), a beating heart in chrome,

‎Telling tales of street-side dreams, of finding more than home.

‎

‎The wind wears barong Tagalog threads (personification), as it dances through the fields,

‎Where lolo’s stories bloom like kape beans strong in what they yield (simile).

‎We carry rain in woven backs, yet still we walk with grace,

‎For every storm just teaches us the art of soft embrace.

‎

‎This tongue may twist with borrowed sounds, but sings its own refrain,

‎In every “po” and silent bow, our soul is not in vain.

‎So let the world call us small isles lost beyond the sea

‎We are archipelagos of fire, and proud we’ll always be. (metaphor)
