         <description><![CDATA[<ul><li>When doing addition, and both the numbers are negative, the answer will be negative. For example, in the problem -6 + -8, you follow the normal addition rules, only that the answer will be a negative. If there is a positive and a negative number in the problem, there are a different set of rules to follow. You first have to subtract the smaller number from the bigger number. When you get the answer to that, you use the sign of the bigger number. In the problem 3 + -4, you would first subtract 4 - 3, which equals 1. You would then use the sign of the bigger number, in this case, 4 is the largest number, so the final answer would be -1. In a subtraction problem, if the numbers are both negative, the answer will be negative. For example, in the problem -9 - (-3), you would follow the normal subtraction rules, and get the answer of -6. You could also imagine it as a number line, as you are moving from left to right. (Example below)</li></ul><div><br> You could also get a positive answer even if they are both negative. In the problem -3 - (-4), the first integer is smaller than the second. Using the number line, as you move four spaces to the right, you would get the answer of 1. If both the signs are different, such as -8 - 4, you would add the opposite. You would change the sign of the smaller number, and then add both numbers. In this problem, it would change to -8 + -4, which would equal -12.<br><br></div><ul><li>Multiplication and Division are both the same thing. If both numbers are the same sign, the answer will be a positive. If both signs are different, the answer will be negative. For example, in the problem -4 * -3, both the signs are the same, so the answer will be positive 12. The same thing for the problem -15 / -3, both the signs are the same, the answer will be positive 5. In the problem 6 * -8, we can see that the signs are different, so the answer will be a negative, -48. The problem 60 / -12, the signs are also different, which means the answer will be a negative, -5. </li></ul><div><br>Example of a number line (for subtracting negative from negative):</div>]]></description>

         <title>How would you explain to someone how to convert a fraction to a decimal?</title>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>First, you need to divide the numerator by the denominator. In the example below,  we would need to divide 3 by 4. 4 doesn't go into 3, so we would need to add a 0 next to the 3, as shown below. You would put the decimal point in between the 3 and 0, and always be very careful on where you put it, otherwise it could mess up the whole problem. Next, you would put on how much 4 can go into 30, which is 7, and subtract like normal, and then put the 7 after the decimal point. The remainder is 2 and we would put another 0, and it after the 2 to make it 20. 4 goes into 20 5 times, and we would put the 5 after the 7. We are left with no remainders, and left with the final answer of 0.75, which equals 3/4. Sometimes, some numbers seem to always go on forever, and no matter how many 0's you put, you always end up with the same number. In this scenario, we would put a small dash over the number that keeps of repeating, shown on example #2.</div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>Multiplication with decimals is like doing it with no decimals at all. you pretend that the decimals aren't there. In the problem below, we would need to change 4.5 and 3.2 into whole numbers because you cannot multiply decimals. You also need to take note on how many decimal places you moved the two numbers. In this case, we moved both numbers by 1 place, and combined makes 2 places. Multiply the whole numbers like normal. Once you get your answer to that, you put the decimal point back by moving to the left the number of places you moved the decimals before making them whole. </div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>First, you have "X" represent the repeating decimal.  For example, in .1424242... "42" is the repeating decimal, so we would put X for 42.  Next, you would need to move the decimal point BEFORE the repeating decimal, resulting in the number 1.424242...  The decimal point moved 1 space, which equals 10x.  Then, we would need to put the decimal point AFTER the repeating decimal, resulting in the number 142.424242... The decimal moved 3 spaces, which equals 1000x.  Line up the equations, putting the larger equation first.<br><br>1000x= 142.424242...<br>- 10x=1.424242...<br><br>Solve for X, meaning subtracting the X's, resulting in 990.  You ignore the repeating decimals, as they are cancelling each other out.  You then subtract the remaining whole numbers, in this case, 142-1, which equals 141.  You then "divide" both sides by 990, giving you your fraction 141/990, simplfied to 47/330.</div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>To find the area of an inscribed shape, you need to find the area of the whole shape, the finding the area of the unshaded region. Then, you will subtract the area of the unshaded region from the whole shape, to find the area of the shaded region. To find the area of a composite shape, you need to break up the shape into a familiar shape (ex. rectangle),  and combine the area's of each shape.<br><br>Problem: What is the area of the shaded region?<br><br>Answer:<br>Square=100 in² <br>Circle=78.5 in² <br>Final area=21.5 in² </div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div><em>Rectangle</em><br> If the length doubles but the width stays the same, the area is doubled. Basically, if one dimension changes, the area will change by the same scale factor as the dimension. If you change both dimensions, you take the scale factor that the dimensions changed by from each dimension and multiply them. That is the scale factor for the area, what it will change by.<br><br><em>Circle<br></em>For the circle, if the radius doubles, the area quadruples. If the radius triples, the area is increased by 9, because you multiply by how much your increasing twice, and so on. <br><br>Problem: What would happen to the area if the radius is quadrupled?<br><br>Answer: The area would increase by 16.<br>ORIGINAL: 153.86 in<br>NEW: 2461.76 in</div>]]></description>
