Soldier: I am bored and I miss my family!

Abud: My name is Abud.

Soldier: Are you from Pakistan?

Abud: (laughs) Is it that obvious? Yes!

Soldier: I thought so!

Soldier: I'm from Croatia, (sighs) oh how I miss that country...

Abud: I must go now.

going on in the Buffer Zone.

I thought that Barbara took some amazing photos that really reflected the buffer zone
and Cyprus as a whole. They all really reflected the islands personality. I thought that it was a
really courageous thing to do, take all of those photos. The division of the island is a very sensitive
spot for the Cypriots and Barbara wanted to open up about it through a brilliant photo exhibition.

I have understood a lot more about life going on in the buffer zone through these
photos. Before, I didn't think much of the buffer zone but now I look at it as a wonderful place
full of hope, unity and culture.

it just looked special to me. Normally, when a soldier
goes up and talks to a man in a car and tells him to slow down,
you presume that it's because the soldier is telling the man off.
but in this photo it was different. It almost looked like the 2 men
were sharing a joke. They were both smiling. When I first walked
into the exhibition, this was the photo that first caught my eye.
When I walked closer and observed it further, I realised that this
photo just HAD to be my photo. It was my favourite photo and I
will never forget it. I thought that there was a message in the
photo. A great message. I think that the message was that
not all soldiers are bad. They are just real people and most of
the soldiers do not want to be soldiers, so some try to make the
best of the experience - like the soldier in the photo - talking to a
man like he was an old friend.

it's like a tiny country in the middle of Cyprus dividing the two
sides. Everyone is one community in the buffer zone and everyone
feels safe. All the soldiers are from lots of different nationalities
and they are all like one big family. Lots of Soldiers don't want to be
soldiers but have no choice. They all miss their families. I think that
life in the buffer zone is awesome because it is no longer 'no mans land'
