The media can also strongly affect a person's decisions and behavior. There are two main ideas of how the media can affect people, the social learning theory and cultivation theory. "Social learning theory, which has also been applied in the study of media violence, suggests that when individuals see a behavior portrayed in a positive way, they have a tendency to imitate and adopt it " (9). The cultivation theory says, "that what individuals see on television supersedes their own perceptions of the real world around them" (9). Both of the theories believe that there is a correlation between what a teen sees and what they do, like monkey see monkey do.
