    This Pre-Discussion Annotation Protocol can be printed and laminated for participants to take the form of a routine task card/bookmark to remind participants to actively think about what they are reading, when they are reading any fiction.

    The prompts are generic and can be used throughout the book, and also across the different books they will be reading in Reading Circles.

    Participants need NOT respond to all the bulleted prompts when they are annotating.

    Logistical considerations: 
    • If participants are using loaned copies of the book, they could be provided with sticky notes to write responses to the prompts. They can then paste the sticky notes onto the respective pages of the book.
    • Participants can also colour-code their sticky notes or posts according to the subject matter of their responses (e.g. yellow for characters, green for setting, blue for emerging ideas/themes).
