Long ago, a goat herder named Kaldi discovered coffee in Ethiopia. He noticed that his goats became lively after eating certain berries. He told the local abbot, who made a drink from the berries and found it kept him awake during prayers. This led to coffee's popularity in Arabia by the 13th century.

Coffee spread to Europe in the 16th century, with the first coffee house opening in Venice in 1645. A king in France received a coffee plant as a gift, which spread coffee cultivation throughout the Americas.

In the United States, events like the Boston Tea Party and the Civil War boosted coffee's popularity. Brazil was a major producer for a long time, but other countries like Colombia, Ivory Coast, Ethiopia, and Vietnam also became important.

Colombian coffee, known for its smooth taste, became famous worldwide. In the 21st century, Fair Trade started, aiming to help coffee farmers get fair pay.

Today, coffee continues to be enjoyed worldwide. People value its different flavors and where it comes from, similar to how people appreciate different kinds of wine.
