After consuming alcohol, the user will be under the influence of its effects, although he/she may not be aware. Alcohol is a depressant, causing it to de-stimulate the body. Bodily systems have a decreased reaction and productivity. People have difficulty thinking, as the brain is not as active. The consumers of alcohol will also suffer from a delayed reaction time and blurred vision. Hearing and smell are also diminished. The blood alcohol concentration (aka BAC) in your body increases with the amount of alcohol that you consume. People that have a BAC over 8% are unable and not legal to operate machinery. People that have a BAC of 10% are legally drunk. People that have a BAC of 45% die. Also, the amount of alcohol that people consume vary by body type. A person that is much bigger and weighs heavier has the ability to consume more alcohol and deal with the same effects as someone with a small body type that consumed only a small amount of alcohol. Although it is now legal for people that are drunk to operate vehicles, those that believe that they are sober and do so suffer from legal ramifications from the law.

After consuming alcohol for extensive periods of time, the user suffers from additional symptoms affecting their body. The liver is a large organ with an important job in your body. It filters the blood of toxins, breaks down proteins, and creates bile to help the body absorb fats. When a person drinks alcohol heavily over the course of decades, the body starts to replace the liver’s healthy tissue with scar tissue. Doctors call this condition alcoholic liver cirrhosis. As the disease progresses, and more of your healthy liver tissue is replaced with scar tissue, your liver will stop functioning properly. Drinking too much alcohol can raise the levels of some fats in the blood (triglycerides). It can also lead to high blood pressure, heart failure and an increased calorie intake. (Consuming too many calories can lead to obesity and a higher risk of developing diabetes.) Excessive drinking and binge drinking can lead to stroke. Other serious problems include fetal alcohol syndrome, cardiomyopathy, cardiac arrhythmia and sudden cardiac death. Also, those people that consume alcohol very frequently are usually victims of alcoholism, a chronic disease characterized by uncontrolled drinking and preoccupation with alcohol. This condition can lead to physical and psychological problems.
