The railroads help with many things. For example, it help people travel at a cheaper price compared to using a wagon, and it help bring supplies to different places. At first Union Pacific and Central Pacific had some disagreements, but were able to connect the railroads together.  Telegraph play a big role during this expansion. The telegraph helped by helping people communicate from miles away, tell the weather, and the railroad system used the telegraph to get more efficient transportation news. Over 300,000 people rushed over to California just to find gold and "strike it rich". Many people were able to find gold and use it for many things, but soon it was starting to become harder and harder to find gold. Prices for supplies became more exprsince, and since people were already spending there gold it was hard for them to buy supplies. Fur helped a lot during the westward expansion. After Lewis and Clark Expedition, Europeans Americans were inspired by their journey and headed to the Rocky Mountain to pursuit the fur trade. Another resources was fore better/more farm land. Back then every township allotted 640 acres, and of course no farmer would be able to afford all 640. Soon after a small group of farmers favored the sale of large parcels of land to wealthy. The Westward Expansion did affect the Civil War because it fought over slavery between the free and salve states.  Texas changed the West Expansion big time by Texas becoming a states.
