This video tells us about the origins of how various superstitions from all over the world began and then spread.

The video explains how many of the superstitions stemmed from religious belief because of the supernatural element which correlate with the red flags ideology and ancient wisdom as the real reason why the superstition gets lost in history and people start believing in the different version of the possible cause because that is just what has been passed down. The video all talks about how in some languages some words sound similar to other more negative words thus those are considered unlucky and best avoided which connects to patternicity because people are adding meaning to things unnecessarily

In this article Dua Lipa a very famous singer talks about her superstitions.

She talks about how she never lets anybody say cheers befor a show in fear that if they do so something bad will happen as it did once before.I think her reason for this belief is simplicity and possibly agenticity. It is to easier believe that it was just bad luck or that some supernatural forces are at play which caused her to have a bad show rather than to take responsibility for one's own mistakes or to attribute it to physical errors like sound issues or lighting, communication issues.Another reason for belief is the emotional connection. When somebody cares so much about a particular thing in her case her music and her shows we tend to believe and do anything to protect it which she does by not saying cheers before her shows.

The belief that number 13 is an unlucky number is perhaps one of the most common superstitions in the world.

One of the reasons why this belief has become so widespread, that people across countries and cultures fear this number one could say it is their simplicity.Since it is difficult to face the truth sometimes about why something bad has happened some people just blame it on bad luck on superstitions. For example if someone receives some bad news and it happens to be friday the 13th, they will simple just say it was because of that.
In my opinion one of the negative impacts about these beliefs is that some of these superstitions have become so deep seeded that even if somebody didn't want to believe them or tried to look for any sort of evidence of other factors that might have contributed to the bad news, they would only find proof that their belief is valid rather than seeing the true reason for it even if it were right in front of their eyes.

This is an article about a couple who is convinced that the old supertition "your itching of the hand means you're coming into money" is true because they won a million dollars.

One of the red flags raise here is that when lillian says her hand itched the night before they won is a classic case of confirmation bias.In the article lillian tells the reporter she has been buying lottery tickets all her life and she probably doesn't remember or is unconsciously not able to realize all the other times her hand itched and she didn't win but the due to such a short period of time between her winning her lottery in the morning and her hand itching the night before she credited the superstition.

One might also say that it is the couple's simplicity that they believe the superstition instead of realizing that fact that since lillian had been buying lottery tickets for so long it was only a matter of time and probability that she finally won a prize.

In this video Ellen jokingly questions how much sense some of the most famous superstitions especially the ones make.

After watching this video i agree with Ellen that some superstitions just sound silly if you think about it however this just goes to show that instead of people taking a moment to think if these things sound logical, people simply adhere to superstitions because that is what we see and learn from. This shows that ancient wisdom and religion are very strong influences in any and all things related to the supernatural and paranormal.

This article talks about how some superstitions might be good for you as they put you in a more positive and confident state of mind and how a study conducted to test this hypothesis actually yielded results in favour of it.

While the logic is true that when people believe they have luck on their side and that confident and positive mental state does help them succeed in their goals one of the flaws in my opinion is that this article and the study do not show what happens every time one of the test subjects adhered to all their superstitions for good luck yet failed to perform well or succeed.

On that note it could also be said that the results of this study raise the red flag confirmation bias as the results do show that the golfers perfomed well however it does not test and explore the possibilty of their good luck charms not working or helping them.

#7 the science behind it all

This video informs the viewers about some of the most common superstitions in India and the possible science behind it.

In my opinion ,many of the scientific or logical bases given for how some superstitions spread make a lot of sense. The conclusion I've come to after watching this video that one of the main red flags that arises here is ancient wisdom as India is a third world country with a very low education rate thus for people from a country like that where religion and ideology is also a heavy influence it is easier or simpler to adhere to something or refrain from it when they believe it may cause bad luck for example it a common belief that haircut on tuesdays brings bad luck but the reaosning behind it is that it was advised not to do so to save water however when people are less educated and aware of our impact on the earth it is hard to make a conscious choice and refrain from something when you don't know if it will directly affect you,so one might say that it is easier to spread superstitions about something and use that fear a a tactic.

This picture gives us some food for thought.

The negative impact that superstitions have on us, especially who believe in them religiously is that we go to extreme lengths to protect ourselves from something bad happening to us and what we don't realize in that moment is that our fear of an innocent animal, or inanimate object is a little irrational and that when we give extreme reactions to for instance harming black cats when they cross our path,we are hurting and innocent being who could not possibly cause you harm physically, spiritually or any other way.
