My students are working on a pen pal project where they are writing to a life long Warroad community member who is 98 years old. She was the first telephone operator in Warroad. This is fun for them and also helps in developing their writing skills.

I am watching an eight to ten minute daily video called "Two Cents" at the start of each Economics class and I have a quiz at the end of the week on the videos.

I work a lot with Blooket in the last 10 minutes of class to review previous chapters, my students love this and I think it is a great tool to reinforce the concepts seen.

For the 6th grade choir, I play the melody of a song we are learning and have the students follow along to see if they can name the word that coincides with the note I stop on. It helps them focus on the music and the words

I have tried to eliminate using computers as much as possible and have gone back to paper/pencil. Without having phones in the classroom and not using devices, I feel that I have attentive students and more participation during lessons.

I have had extra credit test points for students after a test, on Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday mornings from 7:30 - 8:00. Opportunities depending on test scores, so no one should end up failing if they come in enough mornings and we go over problems they missed and make problems for them to do.

I have been using a (new to me) program called Everyday Speech with my social skills group. It has allowed students to open up and share their thoughts, as well as work through some areas of need for each individual student.

I have been doing a sharing circle once a week with 2 of my classes. If I don't remember, both groups will ask about doing circle if I forget. I will admit that I enjoy the like with one group more than the other. I am seeing positive benefit for students in both groups.

My CIHS Chemistry course used AI to generate a list of elements (the first 40 elements on the periodic table) with their molar masses and then upload the list to a google sheet. We then uses the calculation features of google sheet to do some advanced calculations.

Begrudgingly contacted parents regarding student performance in Work Experience so that assignments and pay stubs would get submitted AND on time. Submissions have increased considerably but it does not build independence and accountability .

I try to make use a gamification, in such a way I integrated some games in my lesson just to ignite the interest of the students to engage the class. I most of the time make use of online interactive activities such as kahoot and desmos. And lastly , I introduce with them the Gallery Walk just to encourage them to stand from their place and go around the classroom to answer the posted problem in the walls.

I tried the We Will Write program with all my classes. Overall, it was received well, but some students didn't take it seriously, as it had a "Kahoot" feel to it and they felt it was a "game", voting for their buddies instead of truly evaluating the best pieces of writing. The writing prompts were good, though, and engaged most of the students.

This last week I used the Magic School AI tutor to help the kids review poetry. It was very successful, and all the students did a very good job of being engaged and did learn quite a bit. I'm going to use it more in the future.

Something new this year for me in science is the curriculum. It was challenging at first, but it is now going better. It has been an adjustment working with the new language with the nextgen science standards. The more I work with it, the more comfortable I get with the new language and format.

I utilized padlet for discussing local culture in geog.

The junior boys went nuts making Lebron James ai images for everything.

Then I learned how to remove posts, comments and people from padlet.

I am trying to have my new Indigenous Literature class be "low-tech". Readings and daily assignments are printed and delivered in-person, in class each day. The goal is to remove the idea that students do not need to come to class and can get by just by submitting small things Schoology. Students who miss class need to visit with me to see what they need to complete. So far it seems to be working well and engagement is good.

This year I wanted to try some executive functioning strategies during homeroom. I especially wanted to teach students how to use their Google calender. I've found this to be a challenge because of how busy students are during homeroom. Most days I don't have all of my students present during that period making it difficult to teach them this strategy.

I started having my health class answer a discussion question on Schoology as soon as they get into the classroom. The question is a bridge for what we talked about the day before and what we'll be learning about that day. It has been going well and keeps them from sitting down and playing computer games right away which was a struggle for a while.

Major tool upgrades in the woodshop. Got $2k in Perkins funding to purchase state-of-the-art carbide helical cutterheads for our existing planers. The cutting blade life is 40x greater now and the loudest tools in the shop are now the quietest. We can actually have a conversation in the woodshop while they are running now.
