1. We can improve the PBIS celebrations by having students vote on prizes and rewards for exuding positive energy and leadership. It's good to give students a sense of responsibility by making their own decisions.

2. Good incentives that can be given are recess, free time, lunch at Portillo's, Kickball Game - Students Vs. Teachers, Basketball Game - Students Vs. Teachers, lunch with a teacher of choice (from panther paws), Students Vs. Teachers water balloon fight, gift cards. All of these incentives are inexpensive and fun.

3. When students make good progress on their academics, prizes can be rewarded. When students who are in check in out change their behavior around, they can be rewarded as well. Helping out their community, and doing selfless acts also deserve recognition. Address the problem, and set goals to reach in order to solve it.

4. Teachers who are passionate about their jobs and the children they teach make a good PBIS program. Developing relationships with students can help too. Students will not learn anything from someone they don't like. Programs that help students express their feelings, such as poetry club, can help as well. Maybe students who have a lot of infractions, or students who have behavioral issues can be required to participate. Students who don't have any infractions can participate too. Social workers at the school could offer poetry as a way to put their feelings out.

5. Whole-school celebrations are shown to have positive impacts on students. They inspire students to achieve the best and only the best to be rewarded.

6. Schools use PBIS in order to encourage positive behaviors and discipline students at the same time. If an incentive is included for displaying good behavior, a student will be less likely to act out in class and focus.

7. Altama Elementary makes sure parents are involved in the PBIS process with the app, Class Dojo. Parents can communicate with teachers, get updates on classwork, and more. Instead of the three B's, their behavioral method is called SOAR. Safe, organized, accept, and respectful. Students are rewarded by a certain number of points they receive. This school goes from kindergarten to 5th grade.

What are possible solutions?

1. PBIS can reward a student every week for positive behavior, academic success, or helping people in their community.

2. Add a Poetry Club program that would mostly target students with behavior issues (students without can join too). However, students with behavioral issues will be REQUIRED to join. They will hold competitive poetry slams, and help students express their feelings. Whenever a student feels upset, they can go to the poetry club room and write. Meetings will be held after school.

3. Bring back the old PBIS system with a twist. Have students select their awards with a spinning wheel or raffle. The prizes could be lunch from Portillo's.
