One of Walter's character traits it that he oblivious. On page 38 it states "That's just what's with the color women in the world. Don't understand building their men making them feel like somebody." Walter does not realize how much Ruth actually loves him. He focuses on the bad and not the good things that happen, or making her feel important.

Mama is a very strong religious woman. On pages 54-55 when Beneatha says she does not believe in God Mama says " Now you say it after me, in my mother's house there is still a God". She enforces the belief in God in her house because that God is all powerful and will be there guidance.

On the South Side of Chicago, the Youngers do dwell
Being a black, poor family, not everything’s swell.
However, they each have a wish and a dream
All have high hopes, or so it does seem.
The family awaits for an insurance check
How should they spend it? What is correct?
"Investment is great," says son, Walter Lee.
Opening a liquor store, he thinks is the key.
Bennie, the intellect, has a plan of her own,
To become a doctor and make herself known.
Aside from her children’s great aspirations,
Mama’s dream of a house would be the foundation
However, Walter’s dream began to crash
When his partner runs off with some of the cash.
In addition to this, Ruthie finds out
She and Walter will have a second child, without a doubt.
All this is occurring and tensions become dark,
While Mama plans to buy a house in Clybourne Park.
This neighborhood community is entirely white.
There aren’t any blacks anywhere in sight.
Walter can’t believe it, yet Mama is sure
This move for the family is really a cure.
A family of four, unites under a new sun
Dreams all colliding and emerging as one.

I think this represents her because of her strong ,religious, and solid background. She has dreams that she may not be able to achieve . She wants her children to grow up with good morals and a strong religious background. With her authority she has a lot of love and compassion. With a big heart and solid morals she is a role model for all mothers.

Dreams vs. Reality

• “You all always telling me to see life like it is. Well… I figured it out. Life just like it is. Who gets and who don’t get. Mama, you know it’s all divided up. Life is. Between the takers and the “tooken.” Yeah. Some of us always getting “tooken.” People like Willy Harris, they don’t never get “tooken.” And you know why the rest of us do? ‘Cause we all mixed up. Mixed up bad. We get to looking ‘round for the right and the wrong; and we worry about it and cry about it and stay up nights trying to figure out ‘bout the wrong and the right of things all the time…And all the time, man, them takers is out there operating, just taking and taking.” P. 141, 142

This theme supports the quote her children have dreams they want to achieve and goals to reach, but Mama snaps them back into reality. Mama says dreams are only for the rich or well-to -do. She says that most dreams are already taken and that the reality is no matter how much they strive for their dreams they will always have to work harder to achieve them.
