Madison lives in an estate in Franklin, Tennessee with her husband Senator Jasper Roberts. Madison is best friends with Lillian Breaker and has been since they met at an exclusive girls’ boarding school. Madison was caught with an illegal substance in her room. Madison's father was able to bribe Lillian's mother so that Lillian would be framed and Madison would stay in school. While this might seem like the end to a friendship, both Lillian and Madison have stayed in touch by writing each other letters for the past fourteen years. Madison grew up in a rich family but felt that she did not act as a spoiled rich kid would. Madison is a beautiful woman who has always wanted to be powerful and successful.

Bessie and Roland both ignite into flames when they feel angry or stressed. Despite this, I believe Bessie is very strong for what she has gone through. She also seems strong-willed when she fought with Lillian when they first met. Bessie is very protective of her brother as also seen in the section mentioned when she tells Roland to run while she fights with Lillian because they have gone through a lot and have already had to adjust to new places and situations many times a such a young age. It would be hard to move once again to a new place with someone you just met. From birth, Bessie’s troubles have been unmatched and her unstable upbringing as a young child did not help the circumstances. She has a twin, Roland, who helps calm the storm that her emotions will create. Bessie and Roland both have this disability, where when agitated or scared, they catch fire and are capable of causing severe destruction. Despite these hardships, Bessie still is seen as a strong, independent individual who prevails even in the hardest of times. She is very protective of the ones she loves and can sometimes be perceived as a serious threat. This is shown when her relationship with Lillian becomes more trustworthy and motherly. Bessie will do anything to fight for what she thinks is right, including decisions made in Lillian’s honor. Also, her strength and over protectiveness is clearly expressed throughout her actions towards Roland. Roland is Bessie’s rock and comfort in all the changes they go through in life. Whether that’s with the death of the their mother and what seemed to cause that, their hidden insecurities about who they are and what they are capable of, or lastly, their distant relationship they currently are facing with their dad. A mistake that Madison made cost Lillian her future while Madison continued on with her life. Fourteen years and many letters later, Madison offered Lillian a job at her family's estate. She would be taking care of Senator Roberts' kids, Bessie and Roland, who happened to catch on fire. After taking care of the kids for a while, Lillian realizes that they only catch on fire when they are agitated. She teaches them breathing exercises to help them learn how to stay calm and hopefully stop them from igniting. He has had a total of 4 major relations ships, two of which seems to of been more for political gain than for love.
