As i take in my surroundings and observe the nearby bushland full of green tall grass and beautiful red shrubs, i can hear the buzzing of the bees and the tweeting of the birds as i walk through the park. hearing the crunch of the ground under my feet and the voice of children on the playground makes me feel more connected to the place. The big tall trees creating shadows as the sun shines through, the leaves falling down as birds move about the branches.
As i enter the world i'm welcomed by bright red bushes creating so much colour and brings so much happiness as you walk through. The large seating space where families come and enjoy picnics spend time enjoying their surroundings and taking in all the different sounds they can hear and become familiar with. As i walk through the beautiful scenery i am reminded of Pauline Oliveros. She uses environments to create music and allows us to think place as a musical component and not just instruments. She once stated that we should "walk so silently that the bottoms your feet become ears" , this made think more deeper about the sounds i could hear especially when i walk across the gravel.
As i wondered further i was also reminded of the composer R Murray Schafer , he explored in his work the magicness of places and sounds of places. In his video - listen he stated that if you listen carefully your life is enhance, it becomes more interesting". watching these videos allowed me to view the environment i walked through differently as i just listened to the sounds and the movement of the trees, the bushes, the cars going passed, the smell of the wet grass and the buzzing of the bees as they surround the bushes.

Walking through this area brought back memories from my childhood when i use to go to the park with my family and there would be so many different noises and smells, it reminded me of the squeaky swing that i would go on.
When i'm at my workplace it gets so noisy in the room with the children that i forget how magical it can be when your just listening to your surroundings, whether it be laughter, birds tweeting or a ball bouncing, sound is music and i do believe that in my future teaching practice i would really like to provide opportunities for children to become one with their environment and explore all their senses like being a bird, tweet tweet.
i believe in early childhood it is important for children to explore their environment and raising curiosity about what is around us gives us the chance to think about place in all sorts of ways. When reading 'walking with place' it made me allows to think deeper about how important it is for us to have communication with the land and feeling emotions within it as we explore. Hamm states "Knowing and understanding the land with Aboriginal cosmologies requires seeing much deeper than the surface. It involves feeling those deep connections that have existed for thousands of years and understanding trees, rocks, and rivers", Having connections to all elements of our environment allows to have deeper understanding of sound, movement and art. i believe that children should have a great knowledge of indigenous cultures and i would like to involve this my future teaching practice.
