How We Overcome The Challenges

Generally, we were baffled over the task at each station. We seek help from teacher, kept a clear mind and applied critical thinking to proceed on with the trail.

For the first station, we seek help from the teacher for some of the questions and he guided us.

For the fourth station, we asked the teacher for help and he guided us throughout the activity.

For the sixth station, firstly, we decided to wait for 5 mins after the tablets were seen dissolved in the water so as to ensure that the solution was settled. Secondly,
we held the vials containing the water directly up against the colour chart so that we could easily tell the colour of the water.

For the seventh station, we took turns to solve the math questions while one of us took charge of typing the information into the calculator. We managed to do all the questions except for the last question because we had a bit of the difficulty understanding it. Hence, we asked the teacher for help and he guided us.

For this learning trail, we faced stimulating challenges at every station. The questions were set in order to stretch our knowledge and ability. We found that the first, fourth, sixth and seventh stations were more challenging.

At the first station, we had a little hard time to locate the information board and were stumped by the questions. Hence, we took a bit more time to answer and complete the task at this station.

At the fourth station, we got a buzz when we were asked to measure the area of one step and the speed, the distance and the time taken for the escalator to reach from one end to the other end.

At the sixth station, we were firstly uncertain of whether the tablets were fully dissolved in the water. Secondly, we found difficulty to identify the pH and oxygen level of the water because the colour of our solution varied from the colours listed on the chart.

At the seventh station, we were swiped by the hard Math questions. We could not understand some of the questions and spent quite some time to think about the answers and complete the task.

Our Learning Point from the Trail

Firstly, we understand that the application of Math and Science are evident in our daily life. They are in almost every facet of our life and in nature all around us and in the technologies in our hands. For example: taking care of the family expenses and taking care of the plants and pets in the house.

Secondly, it is important to instill Math and Science knowledge. They are a skill to apply to help us make decisions in our life. They are an integral part of our career. For example: Math teachers, computer programmers, statisticians, engineers and meteorologists use math in their work. In addition, a business owner needs solid math skills to estimate taxes as well as keep track of expenses and profits. Alternatively, when we pursue a career as a doctor, a veterinarian, a biologist and a chemist; these are the few of the occupations that need a background in science.

Thirdly, Math and Science have to be applied and used accurately. As such, issues may surface when we are careless or overlooked. For example, the pH and oxygen level in the pond have to be regularly checked. The appropriate pH and oxygen level should be maintained so that aquatic bio-life like fishes and plants can stay healthy.

Lastly, this trail was also an opportunity for the group to bond together and know more about one another, thus improving our friendship.
