I found this quite hard as I have quite difficult letters in my name to develop.

We used what we had learned with different choreographic devices.

When doing this motif we didn’t have any music in the background which I think impacted my movement as I’m used to dancing with music

Challenges faced when choreographing

·       One of the challenges I faced during the time we had at ocean terminal was that sometimes I was distracted by members of the public which meant I wasn’t able to fully focus on what I was doing

·       Another challenge I faced was that sometimes when working with other people for example the dancers, not all of us listened to one another so it got quite frustrating and we weren’t able to progress as there was too many distractions.

·       Another challenge that restricted us was that there wasn’t any rooms for us to do quick changes in which made a lot of us feel uncomfortable when we had to change in the stairwell as it wasn’t very hidden

How I overcame these challenges

·       As the week went on I started to ignore what was going on around me when the public were watching so I wasn’t as distracted and just blocked them out.

·       When working with other dancers I felt it was easier if we just assigned one person to take care and organise the group and be the leader so there wasn’t as many voices speaking at the same time.

·       On the last day we decided to make a curtain out of paper to stick on the window so we didn’t feel as unsafe in the stairwell where we got changed.

Opportunities of choreographing in ocean terminal and how we used them

·       There were plenty of props and objects around that we could’ve brought into the performance for example hiding until our scene was so no one knew where we were.

·       Other opportunities that we had was using the balcony at the top as a starting point for the performance which I think really elevated the performance and added some perspective.

Challenges faced when performing

·       One challenge I faced when performing was that the floor was very hard and slippy so it definitely restricted us from doing specific tricks and movements

·       Another challenge I faced was sometimes there was too many of us do if was difficult to find a space for example when doing the ball dance at the start me and my partner didn’t know where to go.

How I overcame these challenges

·       When choreographing in our groups we made sure that we didn’t do any dance moves that would cause us to fall or cause any injuries due to the hard floor.

·       We tried to work in the space we had even if we didn’t have much room to go full out but we still managed to do the correct movements.

What are the opportunities of performing in the site

·       Opportunities included us inviting the audience members in to dance with us and join in when there was an interactive part of the audience.

·       We also had the opportunity to use the stairs and plant pots

How we used these

·       We used the stairs as a starting point for one of the jazz dances which I think added to the style and era of dance

·       I think getting the audience to join in helped them feel like they were part of the performance and made them enjoy it that little bit more.

My strengths during site specific

·       I’d like to think I was very decisive during this week as in when we were doing group work I helped to solidify a decision so we weren’t going back and forth over it.

·       I think I gave good ideas and helped to organise the spacing for most of the dances which was hard to do as everyone had such good ideas

Weaknesses

·       I think sometimes since there are so many of us I got distracted quite a lot and as we are all such loud characters we all got carried away at some points.

·       I also think I could’ve given my ideas on costumes and footwear more as I don’t think I voiced my opinion as much as I could’ve

How I contributed to the overall creation and performance

·       I know there was a good balance of dance and acting in this performance which helped me learn a lot about acting and physical theatre.

·       I’d like to say my ideas helped this performance in many of the dance numbers

·       Overall I really enjoyed my week at ocean terminal and have learnt a lot from this experience
