TikTok is a social media platform under the Chinese company ByteDance where users can make funny, entertaining skits, lip syncing videos and dances. With 800 million users, this social media app has gained a lot of attention in the media as being unsafe. TikTok is being banned because the Trump administration fears that the company behind TikTok/parent company ByteDance is observing and using user information for unknown reasons. This problem goes deeper than just a privacy breach of users however, with TikTok being a media platform that shares a good amount of political content. With China being a major political country, they could use this information against American politicians and/or use the information for their own gains. My opinion on the ban is that, I don't really think its necessary. Nearly every single, if not all social media platforms use and store user information, yet no one talks about it. The only reason people are talking about TikTok is because its owned by China which I guess America sees as a threat. When you accept a terms and conditions notice (which no one actually reads) you consent to information being handed over. I think if it was really a serious issue the apps would be wiped all together and no one would of had the choice to download it before its deletion.

The tiktok ban is about the Trump administration wanting to ban the app due to their concerns and problems with the app about the users personal information. The app is ran by a Chinese company called Bytedance. The Trump administration either wanted the app to be sold by a company in the US or for it to be banned from the US. However with banning the app, meant that no one new could download it after the 20th of September but would still be able to be used if people had downloaded it before it got banned. My opinion on the ban is that one of the reasons Trump wants to ban the app due to the political views/content that is happening on the app. I say that the app should just be sold to a company that is trustworthy and maybe somewhere that is located within the US. Tiktok is a platform where people can express their opinions and their self. So personally I don't think banning the app would be/is necessary becasue if there are companies that are willing to buy the app then why not find the right comany.

Tiktok is a Chinese based company made by Bytedance, due to the fact that it is a Chinese based company many have concerns over the platform sharing user information with the Chinese government. Donald Trump had decided during early July to ban Tiktok from US, unless it was sold before September 15th. On September 20th they decided to completely take away the app from App store and Google play store. Many had downleaded the app before the date which meant it still worked for them. Several company employees have been told to delete Tiktok, such as employee of Amazon, health care services and the Australian defence force. Both India and the US have a tough relationship with China which led to India banning Tiktok and the US planning to do the same. Tiktok had been used to spread awareness and contains a lot of entertaining videos, but it also started to get political. US also had concerns over the fact that the Chinese government may use this information somehow and hack the election system.

Looking through this information I believe US banning Tiktok was not just for security reasons but for others as well. These reasons may include: trade war between China and US, Tiktok users buying tickets to Trump's speech and not showing up. Other reasons may also include the political debates that occur on the app. America has always seen China as a threat.

Since January of this year, the percentage of U.S. voters who say that China is an 'enemy' has actually risen by 20% while the votes for whether china is an ally has dropped by 9%. Vice president of Morning Consult, Tyler Sinclair has stated that "This is a trend to watch." Over the years, the perceptions that the U.S. have on China have declined. Bonnie Glaser , a China expert with the Center of Strategic and International studies says that the spread of coronavirus during a year of presidential election was "an accelerant" in the tensions between China and the U.S. and "The next six months is going to be a competition of who can bash China harder." On U.S. television, there have been multiple advertisements attacking China. The cost, $6 million.
https://www.politico.com/news/2020/05/20/anti-china-sentiment-coronavirus-poll-269373

A reason for banning Tiktok may have been the ongoing feud between America and China. Starting with the Covid-19 outbreak which was purposely not informed to any country made the tension after the trade wars to increase. “COVID created an awakening experience for the American people, and the sleeping giant has finally awoken,” McCaul said. According to The Nations, the Trump administration is cultivating a anti-Chinese stance.

https://www.thenation.com/article/politics/china-trump-tiktok/

https://www.sltrib.com/news/politics/2020/09/30/china-is-americas/

Capitalism is focused on the creation of wealth and ownership of capitals and factors of products(preferred by China) , while a free market is focused on the exchange of wealth, or goods and services. The trade wars between US and China had caused a 40% drop in Trump's US export and China's purchase of those good fell bay 30%. Trump wants a export control and investment between US and China which according to the FBI "risks disguising intimidation with the rationale of national security". Many have said that Trump does not care about human rights because of his relationship with North Korean leader. Could this be a reason why Trump supports the Hong Kong revolution.

https://www.washingtonpost.com/opinions/2020/10/07/trump-is-losing-his-new-cold-war-with-china/

President Donald Trump claimed on March 1st 2018 that "Trade wars are good and easy to win." Consequently, his trade war with China wasn't so easy, labeled a "suicide move." The last two years of trade war between the U.S. and China have significantly hurt the U.S. economy. Capitalism is the political and economical system in which a country's trade are controlled by private owners for profit. The ongoing technology war between the two countries has seen U.S. at the brink amid Covid-19. Mike Pompeo and Steve Mnuchin have claimed to be "punishing China." However, it's actually the other way around. The U.S. believe that their free market capitalism is the most superior system in the lines of distribution, trade, and production of goods and services. Free market capitalism is supposed to be the most efficient.
https://asiatimes.com/2020/09/trade-tech-war-suicidal-for-us-free-market-capitalism/

A free market is an economic system which is mostly based on the supply and demand with little or no control. The consumer Capitalist is a theoretical economic and social political condition, which the consumer demand is manipulated in a deliberate and coordinated way on a very large scale.
