Once I complete a simple pillar with two rectangular bases for the top and bottom, I will begin to add more detail. The pillar will be made into three parts that each get increasingly smaller as they reach the top and I will connect them with lines to make it look like one singular pillar. The base will be one rectangle on top of a bigger rectangle. On the top rectangles I will add two spirals on the sides by making a circle and simply drawing the spiral in the middle. Part of this includes a technique taught to me by José using the follow me tool to create some sharp and rounded edges on my base and make it seem more than just a few simple shapes. What I also added were the ridges on the side of the column, at first I was going to leave the side of the main column flat, but in the end I decided against it. Finally, I made the actual pillar one piece instead of three to make it look like one whole column istead of three separate parts. To do this I made one circle on top of my  base and rose it up 20 ft. Then, at some point I was messing around with the follow me tool and turned the cylinder with flat edges into one with straight edges. From there I used the arc tool on every other straight edge(top and bottom), and to finish it I pushed all of the new ovals back a couple inches and that was my comlumn comepleted with only a few minor, minor changes.

When it comes to completing my goals I think I did pretty well. Most of my goals were simple things to acomplish including both bases being rectangles etc. However, I was not able to reach my goal of making the pillar part three pieces for many reasons. One was that with three pieces it was difficult to find a nice rounded measurement for them each to be. I didn't know whether to make them each different or the same and I also didn't know how much each circle should move in over the next one. In the end I gave up when I was unable to make them look clean.
