1.) "The cat was coming again to play with the mouse", this quote from this quote from the story builds suspense as you come to realize Rainsford's hunter is coming back to play once again. 
2.) Zaroff character only seems to feel one emotion, that emotion being the passion for hunting, "I have but one passion in my life... and that is to hunt". Although Rainsford's is a great hunter as well, at least he has some common sense, "I can't believe you are serious, General Zaroff. This is a grisly joke."

1. "I can't tell in the dark. I hope so
" "Why?" asked Rainsford.
"The place has a reputation- a bad one"
"Cannibals?" suggested Rainsford. 
This is an example of suspense, because the readers don't know whats going to happen later on in the story related to cannibals. It's foreshadowing which is also suspenseful. 

2. The development is the main character, Rainsford is that he changes from being a world class hunter, to becoming the hunted. An example of this is when he arrives on the island and Ivan, plays the game with him. "Who cares how the jaguar feels?" Says Rainsford, because he doesn't care about hunting innocent animals.

"Here on my preserve on this island, I hunt more dangerous game."
This is suspenseful because  we don't know what dangerous game he is talking about.

2)"You're a big crime hunter, not a philosopher. Who cares how a jaguar feels?"
In the beginning Rainsford doesnt care how his prey feels, towards when is the prey he understands.

" I congradulate you!"

Maybe he thought he was alone. Randomly hearing gun shots is not regular.

It's rather a mystery--"". This quote builds suspense in The Most Dangerous Game because they are boating to Rio de janeiro but they come across an isalnd in the middle of the sea out of no where. So this gives readers a sense of mystery. 

"On guard, Rainsford." . . ." This is an example of suspense because before they explain that one of them is going to die no matter what but once they get together in a room with all of Rrainsford's anger you do not know what will happen.

Rainford later developed his thoughts about animals not having feelings and can now understand that they do.
"The weak of the world were put here to give the strong pleasure. I am strong. Why should I not use my gift? If I wish to hunt, why should I not? I hunt the scum of the earth: sailors from tramp ships--lassars, blacks, Chinese, whites, mongrels--a thoroughbred horse or hound is worth more than a score of them." - Zaroff
