On W33 there's 3 policy pdf documents, are these the main 3 that we assess with the wider resources documents being extra, or are there more which we must cover? As discussed in week 37 with SHU’s EMS team the Climate Action Strategy provides the overarching position supported by the Climate Action Policy and Management Plan (i.e. Hallam’s current Environmental Policy) these form the core policies for review. You may however refer to wider supplementary policy i.e. Hallam’s Sustainable Food Policy in support of your assignment. The new campus development materials provide in week 33 also refer to SHU’s emerging environmental priorities and monitoring and may be reviewed in addition to the detail presented by the SHU EMS team in week 37.

For the SWOT, would we present this as a table with bullet points or does it need to be more formal, and how many strengths etc should we aim to include? The SWOT may be presented in a table / using bullet points with wider supporting narrative and critical assessment summarising the overarching position.

For the options/5 year plan, are there any right/wrong answers or areas you particularly look for, or does it all depend on the justification we give? It is important the five-year plan draws cross reference to the development options element (which also cross refer to the SWOT). The assignment is designed to present a progressive position and critical review of an applied EMS. We will however continue to consider this during assessment support in weeks 38 and 39.

Development options: for this section it mentions to discuss the role EMS will have at SHU in future - when drawing from the SWOT how should we approach this? Would we focus on one of the S/O identified in SWOT discuss this is an area they should focus on in future?

Thank you for your question. The assignment is designed to allow you to present a logical progression of critical analysis starting with an introduction (including wider SHU and EMS context) before moving to undertaking a SWOT analysis. From the SWOT analysis you are asked to explore potential development options (strengths to continue, future / missed opportunities to explore / weaknesses or risks to work towards supporting to overcome). The 5 year plan then allows you to illustrate how this may be presented systematically over time and how different aspects may have different monitoring and/or environmental management priorities. Additional information is also available via the learning materials (and supporting recordings) across the assessment support workshops in weeks 33, 38 and 39.
