Marx was born in Trier, Germany on May 5, 1818. Profound philosopher that developed many famous theories. One of with was the philosophy of socialism, or Marxism. Marx thought that the idea of capitalism (trade run by private owners) was very dissatisfying and that countries should strive for a socialist economy, or even Communist. He was a very important figure in the Russian Revolution because he fueled the Bolshevik's desire for Communism.

Stalin was born in Gori, Georgia on December 18, 1879. He rose to his powerful regime by first being the General Secretary of the Communist Party. After the death of his mentor, Lenin , and the Russian Leader he became the Soviet dictator. He helped Russia in many ways by forcing industrialization and massive farming. However he killed many of his people to become one of the worlds top super powers.

Born in Tsarskoye Selo, Russia on May 18, 1868, Czar Nicholas II became the leader of Russia after he succeeded his father in 1894. After attempting to expand into Manchuria, Russia suffered a defeat from Japan causing riots and protests in Russia. He then was forced to grant a constitution create a parliament, which he named the Duma. The Duma gave many middle class people a say in the government. The Russian government suffered greatly when Nicholas made the decision to control the military, linking all military failures to the core of the government. Eventually his family and him were murdered from the orders of Bolshevik leader, Vladimir Lenin. The Czar is incredibly important to the Russian Revolution because he was a big reason as to why the Bolsheviks wanted a change. If his leadership did not cause many failures in Russia, this Revolution may have not occurred.

Born in Simbirsk, Lenin was an honors student whom was accepted into Kazan University to study law, however he was soon expelled due to participation in student protests. During that time he became interested in the works of Karl Marx. Lenin quickly became involved in Marxist societies and published many of his own writings. He founded a group called " The Union for the Liberation of the Working Class". He was soon arrested and sent to Siberia in exile, he and his wife left the country where he created his own propaganda machine. He returned to Russia while it was on the brink of revolution. Lenin one of if not the most important character in the Russian Revolution. He was the leader of the Bolshevik's and a head runner to start the revolution. Communism was sprouted when the Bolshevik’s first took control of Petrograd and it grew immensely through Stalin’s reign. It all began with sub-par leadership in Czar Nicholas II of Russia. This poor leadership was the gateway for a communist party to seep through. If the Czar would have made more advised decisions in his reign, communism may have never started in the first place. This revolution plays such a large role in our history, because without it, we may have never seen Stalin rise to power or communism spread rapidly. Although this event underlined the terrible communism in history, it could very easily recur. A crumbling society is very susceptible to unrealistic promises. These promises form from people that are starved of power and glory. No matter what we do, these people will cycle through society and strive to gain personal benefit off of their country. When in turmoil, we must do our best to avoid falling prey to the unrealistic ideas of a potential leader. If we do not have enough skepticism in our leaders, they will repeat some of the same strategies as Stalin did. For example, if the Russian citizens would have opened their eyes and seen that innocent people were being overruled on the basis of being a threat to the communist party, there could have possibly been another revolt against the Bolsheviks. We need to stay informed and aware of leaders who thirst for power, so that we are able to do something about it before it is too late.

Lenin wanted to change the name of the Bolsheviks to the Communists because it distinguished his followers from socialists. After the civil war the communists would follow a policy of limited capitalism until the death of Lenin.
