         <title> A  22-year  old  woman  who  is  12  weeks  pregnant  describes  symptoms  of  epigastric pain  &amp;amp;  discomfort,  especially  after  food.  She  had  a  similar  problem  a  year  ago  and found ranitidine, recommended by a community pharmacist, to be effective. She wants to know whether she can use ranitidine again.  </title>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>Ranitidine has been assigned to pregnancy category B by FDA which means it is not expected to harm an unborn baby. According to BNF 69, ranitidine should be avoided unless essential but not known to be harmful. </div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>We recommend Gaviscon Double Action that contains 500mg sodium alginate, 213mg sodium bicarbonate and 325mg calcium carbonate per 10ml liquid.&nbsp;<br><br>- Take 10ml after meal and at bedtime.&nbsp;<br><br>This medication is highly effective and suitable to used during pregnancy and whilst breastfeeding.<br><br>1. Gaviscon Double Action is derived from natural ingredients such as seaweed and is both sugar and gluten free. It works by forming a protective barrier that helps to prevent the acid rising into the oesophagus. Gaviscon does not need to be absorbed into the bloodstream to provide effective relief.&nbsp;<br><br>2. Gaviscon Double Action contains antacids, which is a substance that neutralizes stomach acidity that could lead to stomach pain if too high. Antacids neutralize excess stomach acids by increasing the pH levels in the stomach, therefore relieving discomfort of indigestion and stomachache.<br><br></div>]]></description>
